And as E3 rolls around the corner once again, this is the time where I complain about the talking heads from Kotaku, GameSpot, G4TV, 1-Up as well as the fat slobs who try to look important by entering a loud room full of electronic devices and "swag" consisting of t-shirts, keychains, and cheap plastic crap. Wait, I thought E3 was supposed to be blocked to the public...apparently, they reversed on their decision when the angry masses battered open the doors to get inside so there was nothing they could do about it.
RUN RUN RUN TO E3 AS FAST AS YOU CAN!!!
So this is supposed to be the 13 games in Sega's booth this year . This list is from some guy on Kotaku and it doesn't have any sources or anything, but it sounds believeable to me. EDIT: Never mind, this list is on all the official Sega blogs. These are the games:
Aliens: Colonial Marines
Anarchy Reigns
Binary Domain
Captain America: Super Soldier
Crush3D
Guardian Heroes
House of the Dead Overkill: Extended
Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games
Renegade Ops
Rise of Nightmares
Sega Rally Online Arcade
Shinobi
Sonic Generations
And...that list is completely underwhelming. Sonic Generations is the only thing really worth mentioning. They will probably reveal some new levels (maybe City Escape and a casino stage). Old-school Sega diehards will love HotD, Guardian Heroes, and Shinobi, so I like seeing Sega give a few old franchises a nod. We already have Sega Rally Online Arcade so if they rehash that, it would be stupid. The rest are just expendable to me. It's great to see more movie-based games (Captain America & Aliens) as well as Nagoshi's sparking gem of a masterpiece, Binary Domain. If Nagoshi is there, then someone please kick his ass for me.
This is terrible. I mean, really, who are the ones begging for a new Captain America?? Seriously? People want Captain America THAT badly??? Well I guess after Superman renounced his US citizenship, America needs a new hero. Superman, what a putz.
Yeah, this list may not be 100% correct, but do you really expect Sega to just pop out with a new Daytona or Shenmue game? Remember how we first discovered OutRun & Sega Rally Online Arcades? We found this name patents on these Korean websites. We've seen nothing about a new Daytona, Shenmue, Jet Set Radio, anything. I think Sega is banking all their chips on Sonic Generations, a game that they came out with a month before E3 so if Sega has another game up their sleeve, they'd probably have revealed it already. The ONLY surprise I can think of is Yu Suzuki popping up to announce Shenmue 3, but that old man is already over his head so don't count on it.
But if something BIG happens, then I'll admit my error. But I doubt it.
------------
As for the rest of E3, we can already tell what's going to happen. Microsoft is going to release more Kinect crap in another vain attempt to get the diehards to give it a shot. Sony will release the new PSP and apologize profusely for the server downage thanks to a mumbling Kaz Hirai (while everyone else makes fun of him for everything). Nintendo will cause gamers to faint with their new Cafe demo (which will probably be on par with the Xbox 360 but who cares, it's Nintendo, they are WINNERS regardless) and some 3DS games. Then something on Duke Nukem, Final Fantasy, Metal Gear Solid, Soul Calibur, and Rage. Another E3, another waste of time, thank you, please come again.
BTW, this new Internet Explorer sucks horribly. It lags, my tabs mysteriously vanish for no reason, I'm constantly being logged out of Blogspot, and I can't even find out where the history is on this thing. Oh well, back to Firefox.
Hello everybody. I've been a fan of Sega Racing games (Daytona USA 1/2, Scud Race, OutRun 1/2, Sega Rally, Crazy Taxi, Virtua Racing, etc.) ever since I first played Daytona USA 2 in the arcade around 2002. I like them and try to promote them as much as I can. Let everyone know about the magic that is Sega Racing Games!!!

Fans Versus Fanboys? Nintendo Versus Sega?
I notice that the word "fanboy" gets thrown out a lot about pretty much anything. If you like something very much, you're considered a fanboy now. But what does that mean? It really doesn't mean anything since it's all semantics--just a blanket statement that means, to some extent, "you suck." But really, the definition of a fanboy tends to differ per person and it can get confusing at times.
The way I see it, there are "fans" and there are "fanboys." A fan is basically someone who likes something to a certain extent. (Ex. He is a fan of the Green Bay Packers and roots for them every game.) A fanboy, on the other hand, is someone who seems so blinded by his infatuation with something that he rejects any alternatives either by ignorance or faulty logic. He often acts in a snarky, imposing matter to the point he can no longer be rationalized with. (Ex. He's an Apple fanboy. He thinks Macs look the best and that PC's are buggy pieces of crap. He loves his iPhone and criticizes anyone who doesn't use it. He says anyone who doesn't use Apple products are stupid. He idolizes Steve Jobs. Etc.)
I bring this up on the fly because it seems to be a big f'n deal nowadays. One reason is because the title of my blog is "Musings of a Sega Racing Fan." Not fanboy. Well, you might think from looking at this blog that I'm a huge Sega fanboy--Burnout sucks, FnF sucks, Gran Turismo sucks, Forza sucks, etc. Look, I'd like to say I've done my research. I do like other racing games as well as games from other genres such as FPS, rhythm, and strategy. But for the games I don't like, I do express my reasoning behind them. What else should I do? I try.
Besides, if I'm a Sega fanboy, how come I criticize Sega so much? Cause I call it like I see it, that's why. Do not doubt me. I've also expressed things I don't like about Daytona USA 2 and Daytona USA 2001 so it's not like I treat these things like they're perfect. I do believe they're close to perfection though, that doesn't change.
Sometimes, it really does come down to preference, such as whether you prefer vanilla or chocolate ice cream (I like chocolate more...I can't explain it, it just taste better). So I guess being a fanboy means using your obsession to make an ass out of yourself. But you do have to take some of what I say as satire because games like Burnout, Nintendo, World of Warcraft...everyone pisses themselves over these things so I'm just trying to have fun with these guys. Sometimes I'm joking, but sometimes I'm not..it depends on if they REALLY suck.
So the definition of a fanboy can differ people person. Like you may have a similar definition as mine, but much more tempered--a fanboy is anyone who likes something a lot. So I guess you can say I'm a fanboy, maybe, but I'll respect people's opinions if they respect mine. Try to avoid using the term "fanboy" from now on.
------------
Anyway, speaking of fanboys, here's a glazing example of a "fanboy." But I'll get to that in a sec.
As an aside, during my early years in Internet surfing, I spent time looking up cheats and walkthroughs for N64 games as well as some Mario fansites. Hey, check out this funny Nintendo site; my God it still exists. Very damn funny/stupid site with things like "Create your own game ending," and "Bad Nintendo stories." Click on "Fun Stuff" to see them. Here's a few excerpts:
Bad Nintendo Experience:
Alternate Goldeneye Ending:
------------
But anyway, I wanted to learn more about video games in general and what people had to say about them. So I stumbled upon this Nintendo fansite that detailed a bit of the history of Nintendo. You mean the mafia connections and love hotels? NO, we mean the actual games. So there was a bias towards Nintendo, of course. When he got to Sony, he replied "Those f***ers!!" in response to the Playstation being the bastard child of Nintendo. But then things went way overboard when he got to "fan fiction." Remember that this was back in 2000 when Sega was still in the console business and the two companies hated each others guts.
This is a Mario vs. Sonic fanfiction. Now this is like my Seong Mina GameFAQs contest in that I remember it but don't have any proof so take my word for it. The two fought in an arena with half the seats being occupied by Nintendo characters and the other half by Sega characters. I don't know how it went down, but I know that Sonic struck down Mario and was about to "Finish him!" Mortal Kombat-style. But before Sonic could kill Mario, Luigi came to Mario's aid and said, "If you're going to kill him, you have to get through me first." So then Link got up, then Samus, then Fox, then every damn Nintendo character came to Mario's aid versus Sonic. As for the Sega characters, did they help Sonic? Heh...they all ran away in fear, leaving Sonic to die. The end.
In order to counter Mr. Nintendo's wonderful fan fiction, I'll produce my own in response...:
------------
It's the year 20XX. Nintendo and Sega have been fighting for decades. Nintendo had Mario, Zelda, Metroid, etc. but Sega had BLAST PROCESSING so it was an evenly-matched competition for years. But the two sides came to an agreement that rather than lead millions more soldiers AKA gamers to their doom, they decided to settle this with a one-on-one match between the best each company has to offer. The winner's company would enslave the loser's company (this is like David & Goliath from the Bible, duh).
So who did Nintendo pick? Well, they went with Mario because he's so damn sexy and because he's the King of Nintendo. Who did Sega pick?
So that's what Segata Sanshiro did to Mario. Mario incinerated into a fireball while yelling his trademark "Waaaahhhh!!" But rather than accept defeat, Link jumped up to defend Mario but Segata impaled him with his Master Sword. Samus shot her little laser ball thing and Segata deflected it off his chest back at her. Captain Falcon showed up and Segata did a judo flip on him and showed him his moves. Then Segata proceeded to kill every single Nintendo character and then Sega went on to be the greatest game company of all time. The end.
EDIT: This is sarcasm.

Bad Nintendo Experience:
Sent in by Paul Floco
After 2 hours of non-stop of playing 1942, all the ending was was
"Congratulations" It made me so mad that I beat the game in the
front door of my house with a baseball bat. You mad? Alternate Goldeneye Ending:
Sent in by Simon Mamane
You would see James Bond and Natalya Simonova will begin to be
enemies and they will shoot each other with Moonraker Lasers then
Oddjob, Baron Samadi, Jaws, and Mayday will come out and shoot
James Bond. But James Bond will not die. He will take out a Golden
Gun and shoot Oddjob, Baron Samadi, and Natalya Simonova. But
not Jaws because James Bond will be partners with Jaws. Play multiplayer, you can do it there. Super Mario 64 Changes:
Sent in by Chris Zinn There should be a 4 player mode with Luigi, Mario, Yoshi, Peach, Wario, Donkey Kong, Toad, or Bowser. The mushroom makes you big, the fire flower would make you able to shoot fireballs, the Tanooki Suit would make you immune to fire and able to turn into a statue, the Frog Suit makes you swim very fast, and the Hammer Suit makes you able to throw hammers. The starman makes you invincible. The game would come with a multitap so you can have 8 player battles.
My God, give this guy a job at Nintendo, he's a genius!!!Another Bad Nintendo Experience:
Sent in by Anders Messermith I went to Nintendo's headquarters in Redmond and the security guards escorted me out because I was snooping around.
Damn, should've gone to Sega HQ instead; they'd let you go hog-wild there.------------

SEGA: Laughable Game Publisher Straight From The Gamer's Mouth
This is about a GameFAQs poll on Feb. 13, 2011. I followed this since last night and waited for all the votes to be cast before mentioning it.
The question was "Which major game publisher do you most trust to publish the best games?" Out of a polling sample from 70,938 voters, the results from best to worst are as follows (rounded to nearest number):
1. Nintendo (26%)
2. Square Enix (19%)
3. Activision Blizzard (11%)
4. Capcom (9%)
5. Sony (6%)
6. Electronic Arts (6%)
7. Konami (5%)
8. Take-Two Interactive (5%)
9. Ubisoft (4%)
10. Namco Bandai (2%)
11. Sega (1.24%)
12. THQ (1%)
Click here to see the poll. Surprised Valve is not on the list either but they'd rank in the half-way part most likely.
...
Well, let me address a few things. One, the title is a bit of a misnomer cause you might as well say "Who's your favorite game company?" or something like that. Oh, and they use the word "Publisher" instead of "Developer" which took me a few glances to pick out. So Sega gets the benefit of games like Bayonetta and Vanquish here, but that maybe raised their percentage by 0.01-0.02% only for that same gain to be sucked away due to bad games like Full Auto and Iron Man 2.
There really isn't a whole lot to defend here. They're mostly right, even if you take the GameFAQs bias out of it. If you saw two anonymous game boxes lying on a table, one with a Nintendo sticker on it, the other with a Sega sticker, which one would you keep?
Do you know who I voted for? I voted for Sega. Yeah, me and 882 other sorry losers. Why? Cause of Sega Racers and cause of this:
I mean, really, I just don't buy into all these nerdgasms over Final Fantasy or Metal Gear Solid or whatever. You can grill me for that but I don't care. If Sega was to make a good racing game, I would check it out! Screw Mario Kart or Need for Speed or Chocobo Racing or whatever other crap you got. I'd enjoy a good Sega racer 10x more than your crappy little RPGs and stuff.
But really, you had Sega back in the 90's, the only company that could compete with Nintendo, on top of the world, but then crash-boom-wham-bomb-smack-dead. If they're not releasing some crappy Sonic game, it's a hackneyed rehash of some old ported game in a vain attempt to drum up some nostalgia factor, but the public doesn't buy it for more than a minute. Yes, you got Yakuza, Bayonetta, and hopefully some new good Sonic games, but that's enough.
Let's talk about Nintendo. Employees who work at Nintendo vs. employees who work at Sega...what's the difference? Cause I know that the employees at Sega have opposable thumbs (I think). Is it a lack of resources, skill, or motivation that's holding these guys back? I'm starting to think so. Like I said before (and I still believe it), Nintendo is in Cruise Control--they make another Mario or Zelda game, it's an instant hit, Nintendo is God-like, nothing can stop them, etc. So why does Sega even BOTHER anymore?
Just looking around and I see another example of a great Nintendo product...
Sega should do what Nintendon't. MAKE A GOOD DAYTONA USA GAME CAUSE NINTENDO DOESN'T KNOW HOW TO MAKE A TRADITIONAL RACING GAME. There, that's one Achilles Heel that Nintendo has. Oh wait, no one likes good racing games anymore, my bad. But at least there's urinal games that Nintendo won't touch. Yeah, Nintendo is making motion control hardware, Sega is making urinal hardware, makes sense, right. Oh, and pachinko machines, there you go Sega, a hall of fame lineup right there! Sticking it to Nintendo.
Oh, and one more thing. SEGA LOST TO NAMCO. Wtf. I mean, what's Namco doing nowadays besides that crap Ridger Racer Unbounded game? Pushing that Body & Brain Connection game that's basically Nintendo's Brain Age for the Kinect? Not saying the game is bad, but where's the hallmark titles out of Namco, like...uh, Soul Calibur, Time Crisis, Tekken...Klonoa...?
And lol THQ, what are they doing on this list...? Hey, Sega didn't come in dead last, so if there's a slight victory to be gained here, it's this.
EDIT: I know in the past that I didn't really "care" about all these popularity lists (i.e. best games ever made), but this isn't just a list, this has to do with Sega's ineptitude altogether.

The Greatest Game(s) Ever Made?
EDIT: GameFAQs keeps churning out more lists as time goes on so I'll probably add them eventually...
I would like to know what's up with GameFAQs and their rabid-like obsession with figuring out what the greatest video game of all time is. First, check out these Top 10 lists according to these GameFAQs people...:

Current Events Board
Random Insanity Board

Poll Of The Day Board
Life, The Universe, And Everything
EVERYBODY PANIC
Nonstop Gaming Board
War on Terrorism Board???
The Forum (dear God make it stop)
Classic Gaming Board (not all these games are "old," makes sense right)
The Couch
At least to be fair, each list has some different games, but overall, you see the same twenty or thirty games pop up all the time.
And then this is all capped off by what must be the millionth GameFAQs "Best Game Ever" contest. And the winner will always be Zelda or Final Fantasy. MAYBE Smash Bros or MGS. No questions asked. They focused this contest on games from the 00's, but all this does it take away Zelda: OoT and FFVII so some other garbage can win.
Really, I hate to be a jackass, but do I really care what a select group of people think are the greatest games? Like what are you trying to say--if I haven't sat down and played Shadows of the Collosus, Metroid Prime, Zelda: Majora's Mask, or Star Wars: KotR from start to finish that I'm a bad man? I hate to say it, but I don't care about 80% of the games on these lists. And you might say I'm missing out--well, too bad. EDIT: Let me reiterate--I don't hate these games per-se, but I'm just not into them.
As a matter of fact, I'm willing to say I had more fun playing this than all your little RPG games:
And I do like my Sega racers, but I'm not about to "scientifically prove" why I like these games by taking polls and whatnot...I like them, they make me feel good, this stuff comes from the heart, you come see for yourself. I'm not running around trying to piece together all these Top 10 lists that are set in concrete. Fact is my Top 10 would be completely unique. I mean, all these "official" Top 10's just seem to reinforce more groupthink. Play these games and you'll be cool! Don't play them and you're out of the loop. Oh so what. Peer pressure, my ass.
Some will say that I'm just pissed just cause I don't see games like Daytona USA up there. Really? That's not it--contrary to popular belief, I don't want Daytona USA to have a fanbase in the billions...I like it playing the underdog role. Secretly hiding in the shadows like Batman. Criterion, Electronic Arts, Turn10 tossing and turning all night cause Sega may release that new racing killer app that would sink their ship (thankfully, this is Sega we're talking about so they're not too worried...neither would I).
There's plenty of games with no face time out there that have cult followings (besides Sega racers) such as X-Com UFO Defense and Earthbound, so really, I find these lists annoying for completely different reasons altogether.
...
And another thing that's weird about GameFAQs...what's with these GameFAQs VIP Beta Key Giveaway things? So SBAllen asks you some question about this new fantasy MMORPG game called Rift like "What area do you find item-X or whatever," you type the answer in the blank, and if you're right, you enter a raffle where you may win a prize that I have no idea what the hell it does. Okay...a Beta Key, what does it do? I have no friggin idea. So I entered one or two and as odds would have it, I don't win.
In case you've never seen this contest, click here to check out SBAllen's post.
Now I have nothing against this Rift game, but I can't help but think he's trying to self-promote this game himself by having people look up info about it. It is as if I were the admin and I had people scrambling to find answers for OutRun 2 or Scud Race questions to win "prizes." I'm willing to bet A. that SBAllen loves this game and is self-promoting it himself or B. someone's paying him off.
EDIT: I think these beta keys were for the Rift game itself. Wow, ambiguity FTW!!
And another thing, this is not saying that Rift will be a "bad" game quality-wise. But I hear about one more G-D GAME WITH THE FOLLOWING WORDS--MAGE, CLERIC, WARLOCK, PALADIN, DRUID, ROGUE, HUNTER, OR WHAT HAVE YOU--I AM GOING TO SNAP. Literally, I don't want to have anything to do World of Warcraft, Final Fantasy, or whatever crap you got because I can't take it anymore.
And that's my post. Very sloppy, probably pissed off a lot of people, but whatever.

Daytona 2 Posts Of Grief -- The Pain And The Yearning
rjay told me "Look at these old links," so I did. I am SO SORRY I stayed up late again, but it's worth it. These are from Google Groups. I'm sorry I couldn't sift through the whole thing but trying to sum up this big lump of posts is hard enough already. Not only am I going to post the link to the post, but also the year it was posted. You don't have to read everything cause a lot of it is what you'd expect...:
The day we dreaded has come (1999)
Long drawn out post, loves the scenery porn, it's a classic, bring the game to Dreamcast. Don't understand what he means by dreading this day. Also, this Brian Fox guy is a Debbie Downer who wants all racing games to be bland with no eye candy whatsoever.
RAVE RACER, SCUD RACE, DAYTONA USA 2 (2001)
Bring these games to a console.
Daytona -- When, Sega, When? (2000)
Bring Daytona 2 to Dreamcast. Everyone loves Daytona. Also talks about "Daytona 500" which would later become Daytona for the Dreamcast (I presume). Love the last comment about Daytona 2:
I believe this is one of Sega's surprises that they are keeping quiet on because they know how much demand there is for a Dreamcast version. Expect to hear nothing on it until Sega wants to let the cat out of the bag.
We're still waiting.
Sega's Scud Racer and Daytona USA 2 (2003)
Give us Xbox ports. How about this:
OMFG, what I would give for a completely accurate port of Daytona 2 + Power Edition on XBox with Live support. I'd give my eye teeth!
Eye teeth?
Daytona USA 2 (2000)
Why is Sega not working on this Dreamcast port?
Daytona 2! WARNING: I may get deep on this one!! (1999)
Wow, this is one huge-ass lump of text. The enter button is your friend. Now this Julian Smith guy..we kind of think alike. Like it's just strange to see another human being that salivates as much as I do over a Daytona 2 game.
These two racing games are in my opinion the ABSOLUTE GREATEST racing games on this or any other planet!!
Oh look, Mark Kim, the dude that wrote those Daytona 1 and 2/Scud Race/Crazy Taxi guides on GameFAQs. I have no idea where he is now. He also gave NASCAR Arcade a higher rating than Daytona (via GameFAQs reviews) so he's useless. I even sent him an email years back and told him about the Marubaku videos, but he didn't reply.
SEGA-Daytona is awesome-Now Listen-Make Daytona 2! (2001)
Just more of the same. Oh look, it's our good friend isamu. Wow, he was way into this before I even knew about it.
The fact that Scud Race and Daytona 2 weren't released when the Dreamcast came out *LITERALLY* drove me to tears. Yes I wept like an uncontrollable baby.
I won't lie--I cried over Daytona USA 2 too. Come on man, we're all entitled to cry over ONE thing that's not a family member, pet, or disaster.
WARNING Sega: If you're reading this, you have a severely mentally obsessed and crazed fan out here that will do *ANYTHING* to own these two games. So I advise you to proceed with your Dreamcast plans with caution!! That's it I'm threw.
Caution is good. And yes, we're all mentally obsessed with this crap. It's our curse, our burden. We wander the world and people shun us. It's not easy. This is going to you Halo and Final Fantasy fans who will always be happy cause your devs will throw you a bone every few months. On the other hand, us Sega dudes will rip the tooth out BY THE ROOT just for a lick of SOMETHING.
'Sega Racing Classic'? Is this at last Daytona USA 3 ??? (2009)this link is down DAMMIT
Remember that Sega Racing Classic is the Daytona USA remake for arcades? And there's nothing new about it except the removal of the Daytona trademark and the enhanced screen resolution. Just heartbreaking to read everyone's heightened anticipated which fell crashing to the ground. I felt the same way at the time.

Aaaaannnddd....that's it. I honestly can't post anymore topics. Oh hell, for all of you guys, I posted way back my own rant about Daytona USA 2. There, read it and enjoy it. I still feel the same about it.
Now, let me say why I added the dates. You know how back then, back in 1999-2003 or whatever, people really wanted Daytona 2? Scud Race? Well, guess what...
I never thought I'd be saying this, but it's the year 2010. Scratch that, almost 2011. Let me rephrase that, it's the Year Two Thousand Eleven in the year of Our Lord. Which means as of now, Daytona 1 is 16 years old, Scud Race is 14, and Daytona 2 is 12. And people have been waiting for a decade.
Do you think as time passes that the odds of a re-release of some sort go down? Well, when you have Sega in dire straits and Nagoshi working on these generic FPS/adventure games, I don't know. I just don't know. Peace out dudes. Until then, we must keep the faith alive. Cause that's all we can do.
