New Racing Games: Red Dead Redemption, Call Of Doody, & More

AWESOME!!!  Game devs are finally catching on to the need for more car driving/racing action in our vidya games.  You must sit through all these videos--watch until the end!!

Looks like something I'd do if I were jerking off in Unity.

As usual, keep it fake & gay.

Now this, on the other hand, is LEGIT ^

No really, I remember the car maps from Counter-Strike, those were PIMP...

A rally game made entirely out of the Half-Life Gold-src engine...very naice!

EDIT: S*** I know this post is old but I don't care.  Tony Hawk's Underground...it was strange when the Scumbag Steve antagonist was named "Eric," therefore tarnishing my good name:

He's flippin a bitch!!

Sega Racers Are Slicker Than Grease

I read an interesting article on Kotaku lately.  And I normally skim over 95% of that site because a lot of it sucks but this one really got my attention.  It pertains to Sega racers, don't worry.  Will get to it in a sec.

Is this the reason why people love Call of Duty?  Yes, I know there's many haters out there reading this.  But what is it that makes the game so popular...?

IT RUNS FAST.  Call of Duty runs at 60 frames per second and delay from controller to game is just 50 milliseconds.  Compare that to Battlefield 3 which runs at 30 frames per second and has a delay of 110 milliseconds.  This is huge when you think about it.  It's a subtle thing that very few people mention.  It's that ingrained into the experience that you're too engrossed with the controls to even notice.

Now CoD haters can come up with all sorts of complaints--the game takes no skill or teamwork, it's horribly unbalanced, there's no tanks or jet fighters.  I'm not here to disagree with these points.  But that means nothing to many since CoD at its core runs fast.  It's very responsive and also very rewarding to shoot people.  I mean, that's a fact.  Battlefield 3 sounds great but in terms of good old-fashioned arcade shooting, Call of Duty wins.  Well, that's the general consensus, I suppose.

Now Call of Duty trades graphical prowess for pure speed.  CoD, in its 5th iteration on the X360/PS3, is running on a dated engine.  From a technical standpoint, Battlefield is leagues ahead in terms of visuals.  But do graphics really matter??  I'd much rather play a fast game with lesser graphics and better performance than one that looks great but isn't as responsive.  I know many gamers won't admit this, but I believe more people feel the same way too.  There's a reason why Call of Duty outsold Battlefield by a mile...

Also, this is why I personally prefer GoldSource Valve games to Source games...Counter-Strike 1.6 runs faster than Counter-Strike Source, especially on older computers.  So shove it, Source...

EDIT: I do read from a few places that some would gladly sacrifice 30 frames for a much better looking games.  I don't know...isn't the game all about GAMEPLAY and not graphics?  And that 60 FPS instead of 30 would have better gameplay?  It's an opinion, but one that I believe holds some credibility.

So about Sega racers.  Is that one of the reasons why games like Daytona USA, Daytona USA 2, Scud Race, and OutRun 2 are so amazing?  Because Sega, first and foremost, put the most emphasis on ensuring optimal graphic performance and top-notch handling?  I hear plenty of people complain about next-gen racers like Forza, GRID, DiRT and (dare I say it) Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing because they run at 30 FPS.  Well, some of those may run at 60 FPS, I don't know for sure, but you get the idea.  Even if the human eye can only detect up to 25 FPS or so (maybe faster in certain situations), me and many others do notice the difference between 30 to 60 FPS.  It makes a big deal and now you know that.

And obviously, I haven't talked about the response time between the controller & the game for said racing games.

So there you go.  Another reason why game devs should get off their high horse on outstanding graphics and make a game that just plain runs fast.  It's much more satisfying that way.  Then you can go for great graphics (which is what Sega did...Scud Race and Daytona 2 both look gorgeous and run fast because of the outstanding Model3 hardware).  And Sega racers (most of them anyway), got that aspect down.  Not much else to say here.  That's just my brief rant.

There's a big NASCAR race this Sunday.  Final race of the Sprint Cup season at Homestead, FL...Carl Edwards vs. Tony Stewart.  Should be interesting.  Thankfully the Saints have a bye so I should be able to watch it.  Too bad I'll be doing schoolwork in the meantime!  More on school stuff later, things are getting interesting...  EDIT: Read my take on the race here.

CoD: Black Ops Is Done, Bid Farewell...

Well, tonight on Nov. 8, Modern Warfare 3 comes out and a billion people will go run to the stores and buy it.  I'm neutral to the game right now.  I'm not buying it but I'm moreso pissed that everyone keeps whoring out this stuff for so long.

And it's the last day that Call of Duty: Black Ops is relevant.  By tonight, this game is now "null-and-void."  But I do have some good things to say about Black Ops, if you don't mind.  Here are my thoughts:

1. Probably my favorite thing is how they assigned your player models according to what your Blue Perk was.  In previous CoD's (or any other FPSes for that matter), if you picked an assault rifle, you were some regular old soldier.  If you picked a sniper rifle, you were a ghillie suit guy.  If you picked an SMG, you were the lightweight guy.  Etc.  Here, at least have some say over what your guy looked liked and that was kind of cool.  Plus not to mention it doesn't make sense for a regular Joe soldier to be able to hide from radars but the ghillie suit man can't.  Also, you can be the flak jacket guy, awesome.

Real men don't need ghillie suits to snipe anyway.  You know what they say...now you see me *POW* now you're dead.

2. They got rid of the Stopping Power perk.  Now why is this so good?  Because in previous CoD's, stopping power usually meant you could kill someone with one less bullet (3 instead of 4).  First of all, the idea that your bullets can magically do 40% more damage makes no sense.  It was pretty much the best perk in Core modes outside of maybe Juggernaut and Camouflage.  Seriously, it's a reflex game so if you can kill someone slightly faster, than you win.

On the other hand, Stopping Power was USELESS in Hardcore--all kills were one-hit anyway.  Everyone (including I) abused that perk.  It was good that they did away with it.

3. Treyarch did a good job releasing more DLC maps than any other game before it.  There's 26 multiplayer maps and 10 zombie maps (excluding Dead Ops Arcade which is not your usual zombie map).  So there's four map packs.  Each has five maps and costs $15.  So that's $3 a map.  Well, it could be worse.  Each pack could have only four maps in it instead of five.  And the maps are okay by me so I think Treyarch did a fine job there.

4. Speaking of Treyarch again, I think they did a good job trying to come up with a new Call of Duty style.  Infinity Ward/Sledgehammer is just running away with the "Modern Warfare" title.  Treyarch made CoD:3 and CoD: World at War before this one.  So at least they found a good niche in that 60's Cold War era.  I thought that was good instead of the same old "SHOOT THE TERRORISTS" plot of the supposed future.

Also, speaking about the theme, the game's story was pretty cool.  I mean, I'm not about to play through the campaign again but gee whiz, it beats MW2's airport massacre OMG NOW THE WHOLE WORLD IS AT WAR scenario, dammit.  MASON, WHAT DO THE NUMBERS MEAN!?!?!?  And another part that was interesting...**SPOILER** Reznov was dead the whole time.  Sixth Sense style!!!

5. Dual mags.

6. Being able to create your own gamer emblem.  Okay, now this is, in some ways, absolutely horrific.  The amount of sexual innuendo is staggering.  Eventually, a few months in, the obscene pictures went away so that's good.  I created the Sega emblem which I rode out for pretty much my entire career.  I also saw some other funny pics that were worthwhile.

This is a funny story that I haven't really mentioned yet.  So I was playing Call of Duty jumping from host to host.  One game, I ended up in a server from the East--people from Japan and Korea.  Konichiwa!!!  So a lot of the emblems were little chibi faces and foreign letters.  Then I went back to a Western server and what did I see?  Heh...boobs, asses, rabbits mounting rabbits, horses mounting gorillas, more boobs, guy sticking his finger up someone's ass, it's lovely.  I feel really good about America's future.

But really, this has to be my favorite gamer emblem I've seen thus far...just think it looks really slick.

7. Treyarch did a good job continuing the Nazi Zombies series.  Like how they threw JFK, Castro, and crazy actors like Sarah Michelle Gellar and Danny Trejo into the mix.  But what I like the most was the crazy plot Easter eggs they threw in there.  Like the Ascension trick which was on crazy pills, man...

8. The RC-XD.  From a realistic standpoint, this is incredibly stupid.  BUT, from a gameplay perspective, it's actually good for weeding out campers.  Plus, it's a car so it's fun to drive around.  Haha, yes.

9. They nerfed grenade launchers/noob-tubes so people will hopefully STFU about them once and for all.

10. First Call of Duty to have the Galil.  And the AWP (L96A1 Sniper Rifle).  And the variable scope zoom. How you can have a non-variable scope sniper is beyond me.

11. The tactical insertions in this one were kind of cool.  Like one of those twisty-cap deodorant things but with sweet-looking knobs...

12. The killstreaks.  Well, they're not perfect, but they're miles better than MW2's.  For one, no nukes, they were interesting at first but now they're just stupid.  Not only that, but in Black Ops killstreaks no longer contribute to other killstreaks.  So in MW2, a common method was to get 7 kills, deploy a harrier strike, get 11 kills, call in a Chopper Gunner, and hope you get 14 more kills and then you have a nuke.  Now how stupid is that.  To make things even stupider, some killstreaks like the Sentry Gun or the standard copters didn't add on to your kill-streak.  So screw this whole killstreaks giving you more killstreaks nonsense.  Black Ops did away with that and that's for the best.  Okay, I hope this point made some sense.

13. Loads more gun camos and customizable red dot sights.  Love it, it looks damn cool.

14. It has Ice Cube doing voice overs (the US Vietnam radio guy).

15. Uh...it has 15 Prestiges instead of 10!!!

16. It has the Ballistic Knife and Exploding Crossbows.

17. No more Commando perk.

18. No more deathstreaks.

19. They nerfed the FAMAS so it's fair game now.

20. No quickscoping noobs

21. Hmm...it has a lot of guns from Counter-Strike in it: M16 (sort of), AK-47, Galil, Famas, Aug, Commando, AWP.  EDIT: MP5k and Mac-11 (not the same).  UMP, P90, USP, Glock are in Modern Warfare.

22. Still love the friggin sweet reload animations & sound effects.

23. Game introduced that Clip Creation feature which makes for some damn good YouTube montages!!  Hooah!

24. At least Treyarch, as a studio, is still intact.  Infinity Ward is toast.  So round of applause for Treyarch for not falling into Activision's Russian Roulette???

25. All the little kids are finally moving on to MW3 so have fun playing Black Ops in peace!!!  Go play MW3 or even Battlefield 3, GTFO off Black Ops now.  And don't send me comments like "call of duty sucks lolololol" cause I ain't taking it today, tomorrow, or ever so you STFU noob...

See the Call of Duty Wikia page for loads of information.

Apartments Are Strange

This post, I'm not even going to bring up crap like Ridge Racer or Burnout.  Let's just put that out of our minds for now.

This is a funny post.  Right now, I've been in Florida for a month.  I live in a cozy little apartment.  I'm not going to tell you my address--I don't want any hitmen tracking me.  This experience isn't new since I also spent time in college dorms a few years back.

So I'm just chillin' in my little apartment and I occasionally see people coming and going out the exit.  I say "hi" but that's it.  But you look down that blank hallway and see all the doors and you think...what's GOING ON in there?  You see, living in a house in a suburb/neighborhood is different since you have a "buffer zone."  On the other hand, with apartments, there's just a three-inch wall separating you from the next guy.  And to make things more mysterious, my apartment walls are made of brick so I really can't hear what goes on over there...your imagination runs wild with the unknown.

I feel like I'm playing Return to Zork.  Or any other early 90's CD adventure game.
FYI, this is not my apartment building.
Don't turn off the lights, a grue will molest your face.

I know some of you think I'm driving at wild animals, meth labs, bondage/S&M stuff/massagers/blow-up dolls or anything that would make normal people blush but that's not what I'm looking for.  I'm talking...creepy Twilight Zone stuff.  And it was all next door but you never looked.

Ok this is stupid but it's a tangent that came up in my mind for just a few seconds and I thought it was interesting to share.  And I'm not one of those conspiracy/supernatural kooks either so let's not go there.

A good example of this was in Super Mario RPG.  I'm fairly certain everyone has played this game before.  There's a place called Monstro Town (it's about 2/3rds into the game).  Holy s*** it's weird.

Ok, I know this is a town, not an apartment, but the doors are all lined up like an apartment.  It also has the traditional balcony/outdoor hallway like many apartments have.

You can just walk into anyone's apartment.  The people are nice and there must be an absence of crime in these parts.  Who goes by the name "Monstermama" anyway???

Holy cow, it's a friggin creepy chest.

Ok, this is the karate dojo.  Yay, martial arts!  I got my yellow belt on the second day!!  Orange belt here I come!

Now here's a store.  The adult sells you regular goods, the kids sell you mushrooms that turn your character into...a mushroom.  This is obviously a metaphor for drug dealers.

There's a hotel with a bed you can just sleep in (where's the housekeeper?).  Then three ghosts talk to you in your sleep.  Ghosts--no thanks.  I'll just whoop their ass with some holy water.

Then there's this spring that sends you to this far away temple where monsters try to eat you.  So it's kind of like the ghetto down the road...don't go there, it ain't safe.

Then you go into another apartment and there's some folks having tea time.  Yes I know that in the Mario world, these various creatures are like people of different ethnicity and walks of life...I get it.  But this guy hears weird stuff next door.

MINOR SPOILER...hell, no one cares.  If you don't know this by now, shame on you.  Later on in the game, you can find out the source of that mumbling next door.

Then you enter this purpley-void and at this point, I just shat bricks.  Seriously, when I was a kid, I could never summon the courage to even walk in the room.  Then you fight this Final Fantasy-style boss Culex (he gives you the option to leave without a fight).  Okay, he's the toughest guy in the game.  We get it.

Also, this Counter-Strike map called "blahhh" does a good job of sucking you into strange worlds.  I love it.

EDIT: Another CS map called "duhhh"

Anyway, thanks Video Games, TV, and Movies, now I'm scared to open doors to unknown rooms.  Cause I might get sucked into another dimension.  Then again, I would never go into some stranger's apartment uninvited.  This post sucks.  Unless you're under the influence of drugs, then this is inspirational...

Oh yeah, I also saw this sweet complex apartment they are going to build in South Korea (like they would build it in North Korea?).  This is worth showing.

Now this is nifty but we are on the verge of making arcologies from SimCity.  Don't bother...high-density zones are not for me.  If you can pack 65,000 residents a single building (complete with rocket boosters to send into outer space), odds are it's not a very cozy place to be.

Come to think of it, I don't like the big city.  People weird me out anyway.

I miss my family back home in Slidell, Louisiana.  550 miles (885 km) away.  Now that's not bad for some but I feel like I'm floating in a void these days.  I need to socialize with people I know.  Watching ESPN reruns ain't cutting it for me.  Yes, I know Michael Vick and Tony Romo are hurt, I got it the first 500 times you said it.

My Hurricane Katrina Experience (Six Years Ago)

Hey, be sure to read the slight updates in the VF/Zombies/EA post!!!  That's all, rofl....Now for

Now for serious issues.  This recent 5.8 earthquake in Virginia (and all the East Coast) wasn't bad...heck, the kids at the Little League World Series were playing through it, having fun which is good.  However this Hurricane Irene moving up the East Coast could cause some serious trouble...much more than that earthquake.  Please try to stay safe whatever you do.

Soooo....I did have my own little hurricane experience.  I was in Pearl River, Louisiana when Hurricane Katrina made landfall on August 29, 2005 (it's nearly the 6-year anniversary, close enough).  And then for the next four months, all hell broke loose.  I was a 17-year-old Senior at the time, but I didn't go back to school for about two months.  Gee whiz.

During that time, I had a laptop, a LiveJournal account (yes that's true but it's deleted now), and the obscene habit of rambling about everyday things.  One problem--NO INTERNET FOR MONTHS.  So I wrote journal entries of my observations and saved them to be posted later.  I've concluded that not all of these were written the exact day I observed them, but they're pretty damn close to when it happened.

The thing is, I forgot to post them...until I found them recently in a Wordpad file buried in my My Documents folder.  Please note that I wrote about more than the trials & tribulations of the hurricane but also about video games & stuff.  You see I talked about Daytona USA, Counter-Strike maps (click here to see what I was talking about), Advance Wars, all that nonsense SIX YEARS AGO.  So I haven't changed much.  I added a few little heads-up in bold italics to help clarify stuff.  This whole thing may be garblish for some of you but what else can I say...these were very hasty posts so I wasn't going for a Pulitzer's Prize here, heh.  Click the jump if you want to read more...

NEW COUNTER-STRIKE, EXCELLENT....

nEW cOUNTER-sTRIKE GAME CALLED "Counter-Strike Global Offensive"!!!

For PS3, Xbox 360, PC, and Mac.  It's gonna have sexy graphics, like Portal 2.  Coming out in 2012.

FINALLY.  A breath of fresh air for console FPSes.

I really wonder how the CoD/GoW/Halo kiddies are going to react to Counter-Strike.  They'll probably say about the bomb defusal mode, "Hey, this rips off CoD Search and Destroy!!"  Well, you dumbass, CS was doing this bomb defusal back in 1999 and CoD ripped off CS.  Oh well, it's a good game mode, glad CoD has it.

This release will have a few new guns including decoy grenades (pssh).  I wonder if it'll have any token deathmatch modes or will it be entirely bomb defusal or hostage rescue?

Oh, and I PRAY TO THE LORD that this game doesn't have aiming down the sights like every other crummy FPS.  ADS is tex suxxor; roflcopter.

So in honor of Counter-Strike, I present to you...FPS Doug, a real American (or Canadian?) badass.  Never back down from a challenge (WARNING: Language):

Oh, BTW, don't buy into this "Online Gamer" guy--he's no FPS Doug.  As a matter of fact, he copied Doug's hair-do (shaved); brilliant...

Black Ops 15th Prestige: Mission All Over!!!...

John 19:30
When he had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.

15th Prestige--F*** Yea...  I went ahead and bought all pro perks, guns, and equipment.  I didn't buy all attachments, camos, etc. cause that would be ridiculous.  I'll buy whatever I want later.

Gee, there's so many people I'd like to thank.  I'd like to thank my brother for allowing me to borrow the game so long.  I'd like to thank Treyarch for making this terrible game.  And God/Jesus from keeping me from going bat-s*** insane at some parts.  Oh, and that Sonic toy my mom bought from the street fair.  I'm not superstitious (hell, I have a black cat as a pet) but eer since I put that thing next to the TV, it imbued me with good luck.

This is a bittersweet victory.  I feel good that I've finally "beaten" Black Ops.  I'm glad I got all the pro perks cause I'm sick and tired of looking like a stupid ass**** trying to do stupid tasks like "Throw back 5 frag nades" or "Destroy a sentry gun," chasing those things down like a doggy gets the ball, getting killed 100 times in the process.  The consolation prize--nothing.  I thought when you reach that 15-50 mark, you'd unlock some special lobby for all the cool kids to play in but no, that's not true.  It would be "nice" if those who made it this far would get something in a future CoD game but no, Activision & Bobby Kotick aren't that generous.

15 days & 22 hours (or 382 hours).  That doesn't include time sitting in the lobby.  And I sit there and think to myself, "What else could I have done with that time?"  In about a matter of five years, the Black Ops servers will be shut down forever and all trace of what I did here will be gone (except for what I save on this blog, YouTube, or my computer).  Oh, I like stats in my video games, but I kind of fell for the same thing I tried to stop--getting entangled in these stupid massive online games.

Then again, I never got any "stats" for my Counter-Strike or Goldeneye careers so it's not like this is "new" to me.  And am I really going to go back and look at stats for games I played before like TimeSplitters and Advance Wars?  Forget about it...

And to add insult to injury, I've worn myself out physically during the process.  Ruined my sleep patterns, worn out my eyes, upset my family with my outbursts, and everything else you can imagine.  I'm a piece of crap sellout loser--the one I told everyone NOT to be.

But really, what else could this time be put to?  If I had it my way, I'd probably make more Counter-Strike maps.  But then I would work hard on it, get in a creative rut, post the map up on GameBanana or wherever, and no one would play it.  So really, why should I care about the time I spent playing Black Ops?  Another good example would be the game reviews I wrote for GameFAQs--all 697 kb's worth.  Who cares?  No one (including me) is really interested anymore--I stopped writing them myself because they're pointless.

But there is some good out of this and that is I paraded around with that Sega logo for most of the duration of my career.  So a lot of people got to see that Sega logo.  I didn't get any "thumbs-up" for it, but consider it a small victory for our side.  I've seen Mario, Sonic, the Triforce from Zelda, Pokemon, Pedobear, a NES controller, Taco Bell logo, anime characters, "No Camping" pics, both male and female genitalia, bunnies having sex, horses having sex with gorillas, and all sorts of unmentionable crap but no Sega logo.  So that makes me unique I guess.

So will I keep playing Black Ops?  Maybe, but not as much.  I knew there would be at least one more map pack before MW3 comes out and guess what--it's entirely zombie maps.  The four old maps from World at War and a new map on the Moon (I presumed Area 51 but this is close enough).  I'll probably buy it because I'm a sucker but still--I'm getting pretty tired of these existing multiplayer maps already.  I need more than the 28 MP maps we have already.  You're stuck playing the same maps over and over and over again...it's enough to drive you nuts.  We need custom maps dammit!!  Not only that, but I don't have any "friends" or a clan to play with so I have to play it by myself now.

Really, what I ought to do to savor the moment is to print out a "diploma" of my progress, saying "I'm Lv. 50: 15th Prestige b****," to hang up on my wall so I can feel proud of myself.  But I'm too lazy to do that right now.  Like I'm too lazy to do anything...

In two weeks, I'm moving out to Florida so my leisure time is running out.  I almost want to go and make a name for myself and not play the same old games...gotta save Sega and video games as we know it.  And to any of you from FIEA reading this, you better damn well not get in my way cause I'm not taking any crap from anyone anymore.

Just for the record, I DO NOT intend to play MW3--I'm finished.  Well, here's a cool picture of Kramer I just found so that's all I have to say here.

So when's that new TimeSplitters/Outrigger coming out anyway???

MLG And Evo Stuff (Professional Gaming)

EDITED twice, moved the NASCAR part to its own post

Oh man.  Get ready for more gaming conventions.  So yesterday, I was watching a Major League Gaming (in Anaheim) stream on some website.  They were playing Halo: Reach, CoD: Black Ops, and Starcraft 2.  Who won?  Well, I don't know.  Also, at the same time, there was this Evo tournament thing (in Las Vegas).  They were playing Marvel vs. Capcom 3 (with no Megaman) and Street Fighter 4.  Thank God there was no Smash Bros. or I would have snapped.  BTW, there was some dude from Saudi Arabia who came in 2nd place in SF4 and that's boss.

OMG Koreans playing Starcraft, we're not worthy!!!

I have no idea what's going on here.

So I watched and I guess it was kind of cool.  No I didn't absolutely abhor it like pretty much everything else.  Well, everyone playing CoD ran around with the Famas Red Dot (very rarely an AK74 or G11)/Lightweight/Sleight of Hand which was kind of stupid but they were playing under special rules.  There were about 80,000 people watching both streams plus those watching on Spike/G4 and in the actual convention center.

Man, I tell you I get a little jealous of those guys.  Nothing like struggling to keep a 1.0 KDR on Black Ops (not me, some other people), then seeing these guys put on a show.  That's a real morale boost there.  Don't worry kids--just play enough Halo/CoD and someday, you'll make $30,000 a year playing video games!  Yeah, good luck.  Remember, changing your XBL Gamerpic to a MLG logo will increase your skills by 1000%.

But in the end, you still gotta go back to real life--working hard, taking care of business, keeping the world going around.  I don't even remember who won.  Also MLG/Evo will never air on ESPN while professional poker will.  Hell, even 1st and 10 gets aired over video games so QQ moar nerds.

I have to watch Skip Bayless over MLG.

Another thing I noticed was the advertisements.  Now Dr. Pepper is synonymous with gamers--when did this happen?  What happened to Mountain Dew--no one likes that anymore?  Dr. Pepper has a contest that will hook someone up with some gaming room with a l33t beast PC and sofa.  Great, I liked Dr. Pepper when no one cared now everyone likes it and makes me look like a bandwagoner.  Also, what's up with this NOS energy drink?  I don't drink energy drinks cause those are for World of Warcraft nerds who pull all-nighters with their "epic 30-man raids."  The only NOS I want is in my car, not in me.

-----------

Speaking of competitive gaming, there's also CPL: Cyberathlete Professional League.  Oh man, now that's old school.  They're still around although they may be merged with MLG or some crap like that.

Let's go back to Counter-Strike.  Not Source but 1.6.  The Greatest Game Ever Played.

Real men play CS.  I'd play more but my comp sucks, wait until I get a new one...

Now this is a LAN party.

HEATON, HAVE MY BABIES.

Still Got It, Eric, Still Got It...

Damn, been playing Black Ops again because I'm trying to hurry towards Level 50 15th Prestige...I mean, why not?  I'm that close.  I'm 14th Prestige, Level 31 and I've been cruisin lately...so good to get my skills back man.  And no, I'm not doing this just in time for MW3, I have no plans unless some convo pops up like this:

ME: "I'm not playing MW3, I'm just fine with Black Ops."

GUY: "But in MW3, with the Bling Perk you can put as many attachments on your gun you want INCLUDING laser sights PLUS you can customize your character and have him wear shades!"

ME: "WHAT YOU SAY THERE???"  Interchangeable Holo/ACOG/infrared sight, silencer, noob tube, laser sight, heartbeat sensor, full metal jacket, dual/extended mags combo... *head explodes*

GUY: We're also bringing back Stopping Power!

ME: AW HELL NAW.........!!!!!! *hopes dashed*

But really, I gotta draw the line on Black Ops since all the noobs and annoying commentators will ship off to MW3, leaving BO for us diehards...for us, Happy Hour is the hour after everyone from Happy Hour has left...

Anyway, about Black Ops, nothing like going on a Mac11 rampage (use Rapid Fire and IT OWNS) while listening to songs like this.

I'm using the AWP (aka the L96A1) because it's a tribute to Counter-Strike...we still remember out roots.  We love CS.  We also don't put red dot/reflex scopes on our M16s and AK-47s, that's trash.  The first few vids here are crap (I disabled the HUD) but after that it gets good (vids have to be under 30 seconds which sucks).

"You may need a hundred bullets to kill me, but all I need is one."

Probably gonna talk more about Black Ops strats later, I "suck" remember?  Why listen to me, lol.

More CS Maps: Perfect Dark Area 51 & Carrington Institute

But first, a shoutout to my friend Dave who game me a shoutout in his most recent post, click here.  I should've brought this up earlier, but I didn't know how to address it.

Anyway, let's get these CS maps knocked out.  Here's the last two (or should I say six since I took two big maps and split them in two, making two big and four small maps).

I guess as a little history about Perfect Dark maps...let's begin with Area 51.  This was one of the first maps I ever made, along with Goldeneye Complex and Sonic Adventure 2 Ark.  So I thought it would be kind of cool to go back and run around Area 51 from Perfect Dark.  In retrospect, it was a pretty asinine idea since the idea of recreating a huge single-player level in a multiplayer game would be a huge reach for a novice mapper like me.

Take a look at this Area 51 diagram on GameFAQs (can't post it here).  On the other hand, compare it to my map's actual layout:

So looking at this map, I start to put together the whole damn place myself (well, except for the A51: Infiltration outdoor parts) and then I went back over the years and constantly fixed the texturing, lighting, you name it.  BTW, I got most of these map textures from texture-dumping the rom itself or by other means (a site called Rare Witch Project dumped all the GE and PD textures...I don't know where to get the PD textures anymore, but I do have the GE textures link).  Although I had to go back and modify every single texture I used to make them look fine so it wasn't as easy as ctrl-c, ctrl-v.

Now I'm done and it really isn't 100% accurate mostly because the diagrams provided to me (like the GFAQs one above) aren't precise so I had to go back and nudge some rooms around to make them fit.  This was also my bane of existence back when I made the Goldeneye maps, particularly Frigate.  I used the Official Nintendo Goldeneye guide and the maps in that book were even less accurate so I had to go back and adjust everything all the time.

Also, some of these flaws were probably novice errors on my part--for instance, the ramps may be too tall vertically and to go back and fix it would mean to slide half the world brushes which would be a tremendous pain in the ass (imagine raising/dropping your house).  Remember, I never started clean with A51, I just kept updating the layouts that I had 5+ years ago and that can only get you so far.

It may not be very practical for multiplayer but I did add an additional hallway leading from the crate warehouse to the labs as to give more approach points.  I guess it's just fun to screw around with.  It's still a cool little diversion so early in my mapping "career."

Now here's my Carrington Institute--most of the level has some sort of brick ceiling which obscures the pathways below:

This map, which was started later than A51, was done from the ground up--I didn't use the same exact floor layout as the N64 game (the building was tilted at 30-degrees which was a huge pain to implement in GoldSource--90-deg angles are best).  I eventually started to apply the same techniques used in Area 51 to Carrington Institute, most notably the "light ball glare" sprite emitted from every lightbulb.  My idea behind CI was to make a crazy map with tons of little hallways and backdoors (as seen in the training rooms) which I actually managed to implement to do somewhat right.

"A movie is never finished, only abandoned." - George Lucas.  We're talking about CS maps here, but he did go back and fine-tune Star Wars a hell of a lot...like Han shot second or something, lol.

I really don't have anything else to say about the development.  I'm tired right now.  If this didn't make sense, then I'll go back and re-explain/edit it later.

This may be the last maps I upload in a long time.  I'm "out" of maps for now but we'll see what comes up in the future.  Once again, check out the rest of my CS maps here.

More CS Maps: Anything But Bin Laden's Compound...

Now somehow, this is a big enough deal to be posted on Kotaku.  Someone made a Counter-Strike: Source map of the bin Laden compound.

Okay, that is grand.  I don't see how this is offensive, but it's just a brick building with some walls.  Not my style, but wouldn't you rather play something a little more...fun and insane?  Something awesome to the max?  Well you're in luck today, boys and ladies, check it out:

WILLY WONKA AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY!!!  Get it here.

MCDONALD'S PLAYPLACE!!!  Get it here.

Now tell me that's not one thousand times cooler than a brick building that the #1 Most Wanted Terrorist was in.  Happy times are here again.  It's party time, let's have some fun.

More CS maps I made right here.
