2013 Motorsports Recap! Part 2, MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

Hello boys and girls!  You know what time of the year it is...it's CHRISTMAS time which means more ass-kicking race car clips for you!!  Let's begin.

The All-Star Race is a side attraction to the circus show to the NASCAR, but at least they got one good thing going for it.  Qualifying for the All-Star Race is different than regular season races and is a little game of its own.  Each driver runs three laps and has to make one pit stop.  There's no speed limit on pit road so they ZOOM right on through!  See the Beginner course trick from Daytona USA.  Bitch please, I drive through pits to shave 1.5 seconds off my laps. Though in NASCAR, you have to stop in your pit lane, so yeah, there's that too.

Messing up your pit docks you time penalties so don't screw up.  Top three qualifiers get $50K, $10K, and $5K respectively to share between themselves and their pit crews.

In previous years preceding the All-Star Race was the Pit Crew Challenge.  Basically, pit crews raced against the clock to complete their respective tasks and push their car across the finish line first.  It's a clever little ruse and pit lane choices for the All-Star Race are determined by the results of the Pit Crew Challenge.  But they didn't hold the event in 2013 for some reason so...yeah, disappointing.

These pit crew guys are athletes too, you're a fool to think otherwise.

Anyway, speaking of pit stops...here's Indy Car again.  This was at Sonoma, the 15th race of the season (out of 18).  In the thick of the championship hunt, Scott Dixon (red car) and Will Power (black car) pitted late in the race.  One of Power's crew members was walking with a tire and Dixon clipped him as he drove out.  Fortunately he wasn't hurt but Indycar penalized Dixon a pit drive-thru.

Dixon dropped from first to 15th and Power laughed his ass of as he won the race.  There was debate that the pit member deliberately stuck the tire out in order to hinder his rival.  It could've been an accident because the Indycar pit lanes differ from the lines on the pavement.  Regardless, hitting other pit crews is a black & white issue so there was no room for Dixon to debate.  There was some controversy but regardless, Dixon won the Championship and Power came in 4th overall.  Serves them right.

Back to NASCAR funny antics!  Here's Max Papis and he likes slapping people.  After the Nationwide race at Road America, he pays a little favor to his rival Billy Johnson, while walking away with that shit-eating grin.

And Max Slapis would later get his at a Craftsman Truck Race at Circuit Gilles Villeneue in Montreal.  After getting involved in a late-race wreck, a crazy lady (girlfriend of the driver of the #6 car, Mike Skeen) bitch-slapped him in the face on camera (it's at the end of the video).

Max claimed his jaw was dislocated and his ears rung after that hit.  If so, well, I smell a lawsuit!  No idea what came of it...

More fighting in NASCAR??  NO WAY!!  Rednecks gonna redneck.  BUT FIRST...Le Mans 24 (or "Luh Mah").  Drunken louts mumble and moon the camera.  THIS IS FRANCE, THE CULTURAL CENTER OF THE WORLD, WE DON'T DO SHITE LIKE THIS, RIGHT????

Back to NASCAR, basically Joey Logano is the Grim Reaper.  Well, what do I mean.  Joey gets in a fight with Denny Hamlin after a race at Bristol.  Denny would later get injured at Fontana and sit out for six weeks.

Who's next?  Tony Stewart goes redneck on Joey.  Whoops, Tony gets hurt in a dirt race in Iowa.

And Ryan Newman ALMOST came to blows with Joey but held back.  Good for Ryan!  Cause nobody f**ks with Joey.

Ya wanna see more fighting?  Let's get back to Danica Patrick.  Kyle Petty, "Danica Patrick is not a racecar driver!"  Instant classic, although I wouldn't say Kyle is that much better than Danica.  Only eight Cup Series wins in 30 years of NASCAR.  Ooooo, burned, Kyle!!!  Give Danica a couple more years and a non-shitty race team and she'll whoop your old man ass.  Okay, maybe not, but he makes a good point.  Danica has been in more than her fair share of commercials (plus one Sega racer) and doesn't have much to back it up besides a pair of tits.

But Danica is still not immune!  Here comes Jay Mohr at the NASCAR awards banquet--wait, that ass clown that read jokes off the sheet of paper at Blizzcon??  Yes indeed.  Danica and her new BF Ricky Stenhouse Jr. are not amused.  Seriously, can someone who is NOT an idiot criticize Danica for once?

Oh hey, one more clip.  This is between truck drivers Kevin Harvick (#14) and the "spoiled rich kid" Ty Dillon (#3).  Dillon clips Harvick and they both take a dive.  Harvick pulls up to Dillon's pit stop and gets a sledgehammer tossed at his car.  Last time I checked, getting hit by a tossed sledgehammer can be rather painful.  Whose the wise-ass who threw it?  It's at the end of the clip BTW.

And some more funny/cool shite:

*Brad Keselowski goes for a leisurely jog.
*Tony Stewart REDNECKS at the new cool Kyle Busch.
*Carl Edwards gets paper on his grille and gets in a fight with Greg Biffle when needing to use Greg's bumper as a toothbrush (the story sucks, I apologize).
*Brutal last-lap wreck at Talladega truck race.
*Greg Biffle's pink bumper peels off during the caution and channels his inner Mister Mayhem.

*I become a Kurt Busch fan because he drives the Wonder Bread and City Chevrolet cars in Sprint Cup and Nationwide respectively.  Mad props to him.  Kurt ballin on your chin.

*Donovan McNabb says NASCAR drivers are not athletes.  You know what, Donny boy?  You're a washed up QB like Jake Delhomme and Rex Grossman who bummed your to Superbowl losses against superior teams with superior QB's.  Definition of sport: "An activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment."   Driving fast cars for 3+ hours requires a lot of stamina (and is very frustrating).  Otherwise, everybody would be doing it.  Besides, ESPN airs Poker and Spelling Bee championships and can those be called sports??  GET OUTTA HERE...

*Jimmie Johnson wins his sixth title.  Real shocker there.  Matt Kenseth almost had him but had to choke down the final stretch.  The fans on social media were raged at Jimmie's win because he's a "cheater" and he doesn't deserve it.  Unlike other NASCAR legends like Dale Earnhardt and Richard Petty, Jimmie didn't build his own team from scratch--he basically inherited Hendrick's birthright.  But regardless, kudos to him since to win that many titles when everyone hates your guts is definitely admirable.

*Also, F1.  You thought Jimmie was ruining his sport.  Well, how about Sebastian Vettel, German driver of the Red Bull team?  He won the last 9 races of the 2013 F1 season.  Yes, NINE WINS IN A ROW.  He also won the last four championships in a row.  Now F1 is talking of adding more double points races in order to level the playing field to give trailing drivers a chance to catch up to runaways like Sebastian.  Just like NASCAR instituting the Chase in response to Jimmie's domination (read my thoughts on the Chase here).  Parity, what's that?  Lol...

I pick my nose after every race.

*RIP Jason Leffler.  RIP Allan Simonsen.  RIP Paul Walker.  Fast cars are still not safe.  It makes me sad but they are to be admired for being true gearheads.  I already said my piece on deceased drivers after the Dan Wheldon crash.  Injuries and death keep happening but some would rather risk it than live a boring safe life so kudos man...kudos... ;_;

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!! :D :D :D

2013 Motorsports Recap! Part One

Hello boys and girls!  It's been a while but don't fear, I come bringing good tidings of old motorsports of 2013!  I stockpiled clips of racing during the whole year to fill your warm fireplaces with joy in this abstinence of race cars this frigid winter.  Ok, let's get it on, I got a lot of catching up to do.

First we will we start with IndyCar.  No, not the Indy 500, but close to it.  This is the Firestone Indy Lights race held on May 24th, two days before the Indy 500.  It's like the Minor League of IndyCar.  But this race had one of the best finishes in history.  It must be watched.  You will never see four cars outside of NASCAR finish this close to each other in a long time.

Once you're done pissing yourself, it's time to move on to May 26th!  Alright, this is the 97th running of the Indianapolis 500, the greatest spectacle of motorsports.  You win the Indy 500, you are a legend among drivers regardless of your other feats as your name goes on that hefty trophy for all time.  Even if you aren't a full-time IndyCar driver, you can still participate for the glory of racing.

This year, the honor goes to a Mr. Tony Kanaan of Brazil.  It was arguably one of the best runnings of the Indy 500 of all time because there were a grand total of 64 lead changes (among 14 different leaders), which eclipsed the previous record of 34 set last year.  While it was exciting, the race ended under a yellow flag because Dario Franchitti wrecked with three laps to go.  Since IndyCar doesn't do Green-White-Checkered finishes like NASCAR (which means you run the 200 laps and no more than that), the race unenthusiastically ends with the cars puttering across the finish line.

There are implications to this.  Kanaan and his rivals, primarily Carlos Munoz and Ryan Hunter-Reay, were exchanging the lead every couple of laps so it was basically a crapshoot going into the final 5-10 laps.  This is because in IndyCar (and not NASCAR), there are rules against blocking faster cars more than once.  If a faster car is about to pass and you can't outrun him, you may only move to block him ONCE, afterwards you give him the right of way or else you're penalized.  Since the cars are so close, they were able to draft and pass each other continuously.  Therefore, had Franchitti not wrecked with three laps to go, Kanaan might've surrendered the lead to Munoz or Hunter-Reay and lost the race.  But no, Franchitti sealed his fate and thus will be receiving a Christmas card by a certain someone this year, I bet.

Vin Diesel's Brazilian cousin.

Now, this finish-under-caution wouldn't be such a downer except for the fact it has happened in the three of the last four Indy 500's with the odd man out actually involving a crash as well but no caution (J.R. Hildebrand's chokejob).  So basically it's "Wreckers or Checkers."  Can't blame 'em cause winning the Indy 500 is the highlight of your career.  But still, I kinda wish they had the GWC finishes like NASCAR does.

Later that day, there was the Coke 600 in Charlotte, the longest race of the NASCAR season.  And the commentators were dumping all over IndyCar for not implementing the GWC finish.  Okay, fine, they make a valid point.  But then they take a text message poll, "Which race is harder to win, the Indy 500 or the Coke 600?"  At that point, I think I shit myself.  Now, I love my NASCAR and can understand the 600 miles are so taxing, but the Indy 500 is the BIGGEST RACE IN THE WORLD and I think tacking on an extra 100 miles (in slower cars too) isn't enough to make it harder than the Indy 500, I'm sorry guys.

As for Formula 1, Monaco was boring and I was too sleepy to pay attention (it aired at 3 am in Florida).  All I remember is Pastor Maldonado being popped like a pimple.  Monaco is apparently too tight to be competitive anymore.

Now, back to NASCAR.  Because I love NASCAR even if it sucks.  A week before the Coke 600, NASCAR holds a mid-season All-Star Race.  It's worth zero season points but it has a million dollar prize for the winner.  It's a short race (90 laps, 135 miles) with four forced cautions to split up the monotony (why???).  It's balls-out racing and there's no teamwork here so cut your opponents off Mario-Kart style for the bookoo bucks!!

Listen to the cool-ass music.  Anyway, this year there were 22 drivers with 21 of them being selected by certain merits--having the most points in the season, winning at least one race, or winning the pre-race event beforehand (the pub all-star event against crappy slow cars who don't stand a chance).  Also, there's room for one additional driver who wins the "fan vote."  Take a wild guess who got into the race this year?  Huh?  From Jasper, Illinois, it's Danica Patrick.  She finished 20th.  And Jimmie Johnson finished first.  OF COURSE, WHAT DID YOU EXPECT???

Now, to dump on NASCAR some more, let's take a look at Tony Kanaan and Jimmie Johnson who won both their respective races.  Jimmie Johnson won $1,000,000.  Want to take a guess what Tony Kanaan won? $2,353,355, a 2014 Corvette Pace Car, and 2014 regular Corvette, and the most fabled race trophy in auto racing.

Go home NASCAR, you're drunk.

Oh boy...there's so many more videos left to show you so I'm going to call it a day for now and post the rest later!  I promise.  Cya tomorrow!

Real Life Sega Racin'--Plus Poor, Poor Peter Moore :(

Well guys, last Friday was one of the greatest days of my life.  What happened, you say?  It was morning time and I made the 15-minute drive up the highway to try to get to work on time.  The pavement was wet from rain.  As I was traversing the offramp to take one of those nifty 180-degree banked turns, I always instinctively punch it and hit the racing line.  Seriously, it's little things like "go 50 mph around a sweeping turn" that really help me get through the day cause seldom does anything else.

And as I throttled on around the turn, I started to drift.  Not hydroplane but DRIFT like in Daytona, OutRun, Initial D.  The little blue FWD coupe started to slide at (I guess) 15 degrees for about 3 seconds.  But what makes this even more exhilarating was that I handled it like a mother f***in champ.  Didn't panic like "OMFG I'M GOING TO DIE", just sort of eased off the gas, counter-steered and whoomp--car straightened out and I was on my merry way.  Just like Captain Chelsey Sullenburger (with ice water in his veins) as US Airways Flight 1549 made an emergency landing in the Hudson River with no casualties.  Sorta like my brain snapped and said "I got this bro," as I realigned the car without a sign of panic.

The drift goes on my repertoire of things a race car driver must do to to become a bonafide driver.  Things like trade paint with the wall (thanks wooden fence), spin out on the highway, survive a wreck on the highway (no damage to either cars, I'm that good), floor it 10 times trying to beat the red light, do a 3-point turn, parallel park once, have a 95% success rate (min. 25 attemps) doing a right turn into a parking space, beat every Sega racing game, start a blog and talk about race cars, and so forth.  Most legit driver ever, watch out Travis Pastrana.

By the way, listen to some cool ass music:

Anyway, this is kind of a hilarious story.  We know about our beloved Peter Moore, right Sega fans?  Well, Peter Moore is now the new Chief Operating Officer of EA.  Basically, he's the Master of the Domain.  And he posted an editorial in EA's defense titled "We Can Do Better."  Obviously it doesn't mean jack shit to the legions of angry Redditors out there but still kinda funny to watch EA become self-conscious of their behavior.  Will they change?  Meh, not counting on it...

Head of EA: Our cheeky m8 took AGES to get dis good, wot u say bout him nao???

But after reading it, to be honest, Peter is kinda right, partially cause he's not scumbag John Riccitiello with the microtransaction quotes.  The thing that is most telling is "The tallest trees catch the most wind."  Yeah, EA, as much as they suck ass, still has a few good games to their name--Battlefield, Mass Effect, Madden, The Sims...QQ all you want about them but that doesn't change the fact they're at least decent.  The fact that they're so famous means they'll catch the most crap.  Fairly certain there are smaller companies just as scummy but you'll never hear people mocking them.  Plus I was reading a Cracked article yesterday called "6 Harsh Truths That'll Make You A Better Person."  Here's a good segment at the article's conclusion that you should probably read:

Remember, misery is comfortable. It's why so many people prefer it. Happiness takes effort.

Also, courage. It's incredibly comforting to know that as long as you don't create anything in your life, then nobody can attack the thing you created.

It's so much easier to just sit back and criticize other people's creations. This movie is stupid. That couple's kids are brats. That other couple's relationship is a mess. That rich guy is shallow. This restaurant sucks. This Internet writer is an asshole. I'd better leave a mean comment demanding that the website fire him. See, I created something.

Oh, wait, did I forget to mention that part? Yeah, whatever you try to build or create -- be it a poem, or a new skill, or a new relationship -- you will find yourself immediately surrounded by non-creators who trash it. Maybe not to your face, but they'll do it. Your drunk friends do not want you to get sober. Your fat friends do not want you to start a fitness regimen. Your jobless friends do not want to see you embark on a career.

Just remember, they're only expressing their own fear, since trashing other people's work is another excuse to do nothing. "Why should I create anything when the things other people create suck? I would totally have written a novel by now, but I'm going to wait for something good, I don't want to write the next Twilight!" As long as they never produce anything, it will forever be perfect and beyond reproach. Or if they do produce something, they'll make sure they do it with detached irony. They'll make it intentionally bad to make it clear to everyone else that this isn't their real effort. Their real effort would have been amazing. Not like the shit you made.

Geez...no doubt about it, I'm sick and tired of people who complain but don't contribute anything to society.  BUT I DO.  I'm a game designer/blogger of 2.5 years and what EA does is garbage.  Like God's Honest Truth, Reddit Gaming, if you hate EA so much, go do something proactive about it besides sit in your corner of the Internet and circlejerk over it as you continue to suck at the teat of EA by buying all their crap.  Your site is almost 4chan bad now.  Oh, that's right, you stole all the good stuff from 4chan (like every meme there is) so, as the Brits say, go sod off...

EDIT: Wait, more to say about Reddit.  As I continue to skim over /r/gaming/ (Lord Jesus Help Me), I'm convinced I found the template for every top post, a shitty meme-pic as such:

*le picture*

* - Bear in mind that this was at the top of /r/gaming/'s front page.  What passes as "quality" content on that site.

But one choice quote from Peter Moore, just for fun:

Many continue to claim the Always-On function in SimCity is a DRM scheme. It’s not. People still want to argue about it. We can’t be any clearer – it’s not. Period.

I don't care if SimCity's Always-Online function is a DRM or not, it sucks.  I don't want to be forced to play online with other people when I play SimCity.  The server downage, lack of user mods, and constricted gameplay make it simply untolerable as it is.

Oh, and speaking of Always-Online, check out the new Xbox which is rumored to function the same exact way.  The one that makes the Kinect a mandatory feature.  Yeah, that's two strikes by Microsoft--always-online and Kinect-required.  And then you have this Microsoft guy talking smack over Twitter against people who can't stand the Always-Online connection.  Apparently the guy was joking (smart move, especially with angry Redditors trying to pounce on any EA/Microsoft/Activision employee they can get) but it really gets me thinking about Always-Online and how this kind of stuff is "perfectly okay" according to these people.  I'm joining the PC Master Race if this is the case.  New Xbox is looking more like shit every day.

-----------

I just felt like throwing this in here for fun.  Super old but I don't care.  Here's Richard Garriott (of Ultimate fame) saying that "most game designers really suck."  I've never cared about Ultima and I think Richard is an arrogant asshole but I do agree with over-infatuation with the game designers and how they trot up on stage and give the same-old self-aggrandizing speeches and soak in all the attention like they're gods among us mere pawns & peasants.  You guys would be nowhere without the programmers and artists who helped you get there.  Yeah, power to the programmers (and artists too, although they don't like drawing cars so boohoo), you guys are the best.  Now go shave your neckbeards.

------------

One more thing.  I keep hearing about these guys called the "Game Grumps" from all my ex-FIEA classmates.  And how they talk about the Game Grumps playing Sonic '06 and how astonished they are at how bad that game really was.  Um, welcome to the life of Sega fans seven years ago.  I beat Sonic '06 from  start to finish and everyone's like "NO WAAAAYYYY."  Yes way.  It was like eating prison food while fans of every other company got to eat 5-star steak and lobster.  As a bitter Sega fan, I want every non-Sega fan to suffer with us.  Ok, adios guys.

NASCAR Is Very Serious Business (Kurt Busch Sucks)

At last night's Sprint Cup race at Bristol, Tony Stewart was contesting for the lead when he got in a wreck with Matt Kenseth.  Afterwards, Tony gets furious and throws his helmet at Matt's car.  Tony went from leader to finishing 27th just like that.  EDIT: Replaced video cause some idiot took first one down.

Now that video makes Tony look like a fat old man.  Also, Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing Transformed spokeswoman Danica Patrick wrecked too (to nobody's surprise) late in the race (was still on the lead lap, amazing) and pointed at instigator Regan Smith as he drove by.  So it was old-school racing at its finest and everyone got angry.  Lol, you mad?

But Tony's helmet toss is not surprising.  Just for fun, here are clips of people getting mad and swearing for the camera.  Warning: PG-13 Language.

And then there's Kurt Busch who is in a league of his own.  You know about his younger brother Kyle who is an asshat, but he clearly learned everything from older brother Kurt.

You could fill an entire 90-minute special on Kurt's antics.  Oh wait, someone already has!!!  The first 50 minutes or so are about Kurt picking fights with practically every other NASCAR driver.  If you want to skip to the good stuff, I'd say go to 55 minutes and watch that.

Not a coincidence that Kurt was fired from Penske Racing in 2011.  He was picked up by Phoenix Racing in 2012 and his luck has turned for the worse (his car sucks).  Even worse, his #51 car is unsponsored since no one wants to be involved with such a troublemaker as him.  Guess what, Kurt?

Speaking of arguments between drivers about who instigated a wreck and who's the dirty driver and so forth (the kind that would result in fights over Forza, iRacing, etc.) , NASCAR seldom penalizes drivers in these situations unless it's blatantly obvious/reckless on a certain driver's part.  Otherwise, it comes down to vigilante justice.  If a fellow driver treats you with courtesy & makes clean passes, you return the favor.  If he rubs elbows with you, then you rub him back.  You can type "X gets pissed at Y" in YouTube for anyone and see how these rivalries occur.  What goes around comes around--since Kurt was hated by every other NASCAR driver at some point, he is basically abused by everyone in return.

------------

I will go ahead and say this: I think auto racing, both in real life and in video games, is probably the most anger-inducing of all sporting events.  Racing?  As opposed to something more violent like football or Call of Duty?  Seriously, I've heard things on Forza that make Call of Duty kids seem pious.  Ignoring the little Xbox Live kids who curse up a storm because they're too immature to be playing games anyway, let me explain why.  There are three factors:

1. You're on your own.

There's two types of competitive sports/games--teams and solo games.  Team games include soccer, football, basketball, baseball, hockey, Call of Duty/FPSes in general.  Solo games include golf, tennis, auto racing IRL and in games, fighting games, chess & poker (I suppose they count).  Yeah, sure, auto racing is a team effort--you have crews and fellow drivers assisting you, but in the end one person raises that trophy and that's you.

The good thing about being on a team is that you usually have fallback options.  If you're doing poorly--either you make one or two bad plays or need to be benched from the game altogether, at least you have your teammates to pick up the slack and hopefully make a few great plays, guide the team to victory, and make up for your mediocrity.  Sure, it sucks for you but at least you still "won."

However, in solo sports, it's all up to you.  If you play poorly and/or lose, there's really no one to blame other than yourself.  If you're having a bad day or are embarrassed, there's no evading it.  You need to keep your composure and finish the entire length of the event, take the loss, and face the music, knowing "I coulda/shoulda/woulda done better but I didn't and I lost, shame on me."  Yet some can't come to grips with losing which is why we kick and scream when that happens.

2. All it takes is one mistake to ruin the race.

Thinking about other games like football, soccer, Call of Duty, even solo sports like tennis & golf, etc., if you make a few terrible plays, such as a turnover or you die a few times, it's not the end of the game.  You can still catch up.  If the other team wins a few rounds/sets/holes and there's still some time left to play, at least you can outplay them later and make it an even game.

However, in racing, all it really takes is one or two miscues and you wreck and are set VERY FAR back.  Well, it depends on the game--in Mario Kart, crashes are expected to happen but in racing "sims," the penalty is much more severe.  It's so easy to just graze the other person's car and you're both flying.  Hopefully, it's a very light wreck and you're only set back about 10-15 seconds or so (Forza) and you can make the comeback assuming you race your ass off and/or the people in front of you screw up too.

But that doesn't take damage into consideration.  If that wreck dings your bumper, congratulations--your aerodynamics are shot which slows you down and makes it even more difficult to win.  Even worse, the engine/transmission could be shot which means you have to putter around the track at half-speed just to come in second to last as opposed to dead last in order to garner a few more points for the standings.  No worse feeling than that.

Now Forza is bad.  Playing with sim settings is awful once you hit the wall and dread trying to finish, but at least you can start a new race a few minutes later.  So think of it from a NASCAR driver's standpoint.  Each week you travel across the country to a new track.  You take the car out for numerous practice sessions, tune the thing over and over and over and over again to make sure it's just right.  Then you race.  Halfway through the race, the car spins out and smashes to pieces.  That's some hundreds of thousands of dollars of equipment GONE in seconds and it probably wasn't your fault.  Plus that entire week was in vain as you finish in the bottom third of the standings and have to do it all over again next week and hope the results are better.  That's just aggravating to think about--I would be cursing too if that happened.

3. Driving is a strenuous ordeal.

Even though sports on a high level, such as football, soccer, baseball, basketball, etc. require extreme fitness, at the very least you get breaks.  You can stop for Gatorade, you can call timeouts, sit on the bench, halftime, hit the showers, etc.  Yet in auto racing, that seldom ever happens.  The race begins and it lasts for some 3-4 hours.  Yes, there's yellow flags (and the rare red flag) which means you're not exerting yourself nonstop.  But to sit in that confined car in that racing suit & helmet of yours and experience those G-forces for that period of time is tough.  BTW, did we mention the possibility of unexpected wrecks, wild rides, injury, death???

As an aside: I still fail to believe some of the things in this video, like the 13 pounds of water weight (I imagine they would be unconscious if they were in a 130-F oven being tossed around for 4 hours without a drop of water) but SportsScience tends to paint athletes as these gladiators who are able to ascends to the heavens and wrestle the gods while us plebians need help to even get up out of bed and use the bathroom cause we're so weak (or something).  But you get the idea, racing is tough.

I suppose this also applies to video games to a much lesser extent (well duh).  There's no pauses in the action--the entire game is nonstop "keep moving."  And that can be tough since the goal is always to move forward--you can't slow down for anything (i.e. "let's regroup" in FPS games and stuff) and hence your mind is always racing, trying to keep the car in equilibrium while simultaneously taking additional factors into play like other drivers trying to cut you off and so forth.  Just something to think about.

------------

Now you know why NASCAR is so hard and why drivers like Kurt Busch get hot under the collar--CAUSE IT'S TOUGH BUSINESS.

BTW, I didn't know this happened at the Daytona 500, hilarious:

Multi Theft Auto: A Better GTA Than That Stupid GTA IV

This isn't meant to be a wordy post but you learn something new everyday so check it out.

Learned about a new mod today for Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas on the PC.  It's called "Multi Theft Auto."  It's supposed to be like Garry's Mod for GTA in that you can mess around with many other players in a single GTA world.  Obviously, the main hook for me is the massively-multiplayer racing modes.  Here's some vids and I have to tell ya, I'm stunned how much you can do:

European Pro Gamers...no doubt there are guys from The Netherlands practicing 18 hours a day.  Anyway, there's a huge amount of stunt tracks like out of San Francisco Rush.  And the OJ Simpson "chase the pink car" mode is f'n gold.

Just a traditional race.  I'm not a fan of the glowy node things but it looks great.

Another race mode with incredibly annoying music and changing vehicles (you mean like Sonic All-Stars Racing 2???  Sumo Digital are SLACKERS).

Deathmatch mode--cops vs gangsters.

Stunt movie.  OSHI--IS THAT GUNS n' ROSES???

A better version of DiCE/evil EA's Battlefield 3.

Rage face mod and some weird demolition derby/stunt map.

Driving on Rainbow Road...I still hate this music (sorry guys).

EDIT: This is just a handful of gameplay videos I found out.  It just scratches the surface.  So there's a lot more to do with this mod.

I remember playing online GTA for Vice City years ago...you picked from a couple different characters (a cop, Tommy Vercetti's gang, a bank robber, etc) who had different weapons and you ran around town shooting each other.  You could also have car races but there were no in-game rules for that--the other players had to coordinate to do this.  And yet this mod has greatly evolved since then.  I like this because it proves A. that fan mods/creations are awesome, maybe even better than the multi-million dollar studios and B. that "old" games like GTA:SA, Half-Life 1, and so forth are not down and out.

Guess it's worth checking out if you're into this sort of thing.  The community is still alive but for how long, I don't know:

Clearly we cannot bring up other racing games without bring up Sega so here's some GTA mods for that:

Greatest Day In Motorsports

Sup people, just wanted to let you know this May 27, 2012 is going to be awesome.  There will be THREE big races today: Monaco Grand Prix, Indianapolis 500, and Coca-Cola 600.

Monaco in the morning, Indy in the afternoon, Coca-Cola in the evening.  Gonna be tough waking up at 7:30 AM to see the Monaco race!  I live in Eastern time so if you live west of me...well, it's gonna be rough.  I'll sleep on the couch with the TV on if it need be.

There's big significance in each of these races.  The Monaco Grand Prix and Indianapolis 500 are two of the three "Triple Crown of Motorsport."  And the Coke 600 is the longest race of the NASCAR season.

I don't have much to say about any race yet.  I talked about Indy Car/Formula 1 in general a year ago.  After the races are though, I'll probably append my thoughts to this post later.

Oh yeah, just a friendly reminder.   Try not to run out of gas on the final lap...is that right, Junior???

Anyway, one more thing.  The Nationwide race was today, as usual.  And Joey Logano drove the Gamestop car complete with Hitman hood decals and jumpsuit.

Joey's hood has sported many video game decals in the past, such as Modern Warfare 2, Little Big Planet, Bioshock 2, God of War some number, and Lego Batman.  I wonder if this'll loosen gamers up to NASCAR even the slightest since we all know that NASCAR is about rednecks, turning left, and wrecks, right???  I don't think hardcore gamers care but whatever--this'll remains the SOUTH'S sport and dem city boy noobs can't take that away from us...

EDIT: Here's my response after seeing all three of Sunday's races.  The pre-race ceremonies were awesome.  Monaco was funny because there was a wreck within the first five seconds.  Always funny when cautions come out 5 seconds into a race (see Martinsville 2012).  When Webber won, he sprayed champagne on the cameramen/photographers, lol.  Indy 500 was good--Sato's ballsy maneuver on the last lap was crazy...he cut inside Franchitti on Turn 1 but spun out cause he hit the Forza "insta-spin" white strip.  And Coke 600--loved the Memorial Day stuff.  Kasey Kahne won so at least someone "new" got the trophy.  Junior predictably finished in the Top 10 without a win.  So that satisfies my racing fix for now.  Expect more racing stuff in the future.

Super Sprint 1.1 In The Works (The Finish Line Dilemma)

Hey guys, I have a bit of time off from school so I'm polishing Super Sprint!  Why, because I'm a diehard like that.  Here's what I got so far:

* Cleaned up the code a bit.
* Track implementation is all done using text files...no effect on gameplay but good for me!
* Button to toggle volume...if you don't want to hit the speaker settings or you want to listen to something else on the comp while playing.
* Added an application icon.
* Added more authentic Super Sprint sounds.  Now I've implemented the actual engine SFX with shifting gears and everything!
* Changed the volume of the AI sound effects so they don't irritate you as much.
* Buffed the top speed upgrade a bit.
* Fixed a glitch in which driving in reverse thru the finish line may take away two laps instead of one.
EDIT: * I've even added more cool things since then, it's a spoiler I won't give away just yet...
* More accurate lap timing...:

------------

When you look at racing video games, everything works in frames.  This ain't real life in which everything runs at 1,000,000 FPS (or something).  We're working with 60 FPS (approx 16 ms per frame).  Even still, that number can fluctuate if the CPU's performance boggs down, hence why we use time-based movement to keep the game running at the same rate regardless.  But anyway, bad things can happen if you don't catch 'em.  Like this:

Take a look at this scenario.  Let's pretend that the game runs at a constant 10 FPS (which is crap but just bear with me).  Each frame, the game checks each car to see if it crossed the finish line, like this:

1:00.100 No...
1:00.200 No...
1:00.300 YES!!!

According to the game, your final time is 1:00.300.  But wait, that's incorrect from a logical perspective.  Looking at the illustration, you've overshot the finish line at .300.  But the game stops the timer the first frame it detects the car past the finish line.  So what do we do?  We do this:

Examine the frame in which the car crossed the finish line.  The frame was 100 ms long.  Assuming that the car travels at constant velocity during this frame, it crossed the X-plane at about 36% of the car's travel distance for that frame.  So from one frame to the next, it only took 36 ms instead of 100 ms to cross the plane.  Therefore, your final time is 1:00.236, not 1:00.300.  Congratulations, ladies and gentlemen, we've increased our precision down to the milliseconds!  This can be confusing to implement but it doesn't take THAT much code to do so and you'll be glad you did.

But wait, there's more!  What do we do in the case of multiple cars?  Take a look here:

Assume that the game is still running at 10 FPS.  You see two players coming down to the finish line.  Because the red car had a lead on the blue car, you'd assume Player 2's red car won the race, right?

WRONG!!!  According to the game's flawed logic, Player 1 won.  Why?  Like I said before, in each frame, the game checks each car if they crossed the finish line, starting from Car #1 to Car #8.  Like this:

At 1:23.200:
Did P1 cross line?  No.
Did P2 cross line?  No.

At 1:23.300:
Did P1 cross line?  No.
Did P2 cross line?  No.

At 1:23.400:
Did P1 cross line?  YES!!!  1st Place!
Did P2 cross line?  YES!!!  2nd Place!

Basically, how the game works is that it holds up a 1st place ribbon and gives it to the first car that it detects as having finished the race.  Once it's done that, it gives the 2nd place ribbon to the next car to finish, then the 3rd, the 4th, etc.  Notice how I said "detects as having finished" because it sees that Player 1 (Blue) finished before Player 2 (Red) so it makes the false assumption that P1 won when in fact P2 really did.

So how do you remedy this?  It takes a bit more heavy lifting by the CPU but it can be done.  This algorithm runs every time a car finishes and not every single frame so it's not too bad.  Program the frame like this:

At 1:23.400:
Did P1 finish?  YES!  Final time: 1:23.377.  Compare his final time with every other car's time.  He is currently in 1st.
Did P2 finish?  YES!  Final time: 1:23.344.  Compare his final time with every other car's time.  What's this--he's faster than P1?  Swap positions.  So P2 is now in 1st, P1 is in 2nd.

While precision is great, the only time this algorithm makes a bit of difference is that two or more cars finish on the SAME EXACT FRAME and that a higher-number player has a faster time than a lower-number player.  If they finish on different frames, then it makes no difference.  The odds of such a scenario are so slim but don't say that IT CAN'T HAPPEN.

Really, I imagine if this game is played a million times, then odds are you'll get one Kurt Busch/Ricky Craven finish.  And can you imagine if I didn't implement this and one player got a faster time than the other but came in 2nd instead of 1st?  If that guy was pregnant, he would've broke his water.  We don't want anyone's water broken here.

Sorry Ricky, due to our flawed logic, you are 2nd place.

BTW, I've also accomodated this code for TIES.  Down to the millisecond.  If two players tie, then they both get the same number of points.  It also says both came in "First Place" too.  Easy but ridiculous.

...

So some of you at this point have asked "Eric, why does this code make a damn bit of a difference?"  Because this is how EVERY RACING GAME WORKS!!!  Well, all the good ones are, not including the ones from Midway.  If you can implement this system for a dinky little OpenGL game, then you can implement it for a major title like Daytona or OutRun.

It's like when Michelangelo painted the Sistine Chapel.  When asked "Why do you paint the dark corners that no one can see?"  He replied "God can see it."  Ok, I just compared the painting of religious figures to programming a lousy video game.  Oh well, kind of the same thing.  I'm a Christian so I work for the Lord too.

It's Scud Race!

Now, what else to add to Super Sprint 1.1.  If there's a wishlist anywhere (is anyone wishing?) then I'll get that.  The main reason I'm picking up the game again is to get online multiplayer.  Then I'll try to work on better collision detection since right now, the cars can drive though each other, per-se.  Then more sprites such as flames when cars explode, time trial mode, and custom keyboard configs.  Depends on how much free time I have in the future.  Oh well, hope you learned something so cya later.

Hilarious Daytona USA 2 Article

Good Guy Rjay e-mailed me these a while back and I presume he wants me to post them so here we go.  This is from Dreamcast Magazine, Issue 6 (date some time in '99-'00).  Now this isn't a very long article and it doesn't really tell us anything we don't know but it's got some funny lines.  Stuff written in bold are quotes from the article.  Here goes:

FUNNY QUOTES:

* Fancy a quick spin around the race track?  Then strap yourself in and prepare for the ride of your life...and a touch of dizziness???

* Getting Dizzy With It

* It's not easy going, however, as you must navigate the track eight times without being rammed into the wall or, worse still, going cross-eyed with dizziness.

Who's getting dizzy while playing this?  Is this another "turn-left" NASCAR gag?  You spin me right round baby..

* With Daytona USA 2 Dreamcast-bound... BWAHAHAHA!!!  NICE CALL GUYS!!!  THANKS, SEGA!!!  Thanks for the laugh.

* Daytona USA 2 is the last game to be making the transition from coin-op to Dreamcast and is yet another beast of a game from Sega and its all-conquering AM2 department.  HAWHAWHAWHAWHAWHAWHAWHAWHAWHWA

* Daytona USA 2 might be 'just another racing game' to some, but to others it is a religion, with its high speed capers and dirty tactics and cutting up opponents.  I wouldn't call Daytona a religion...that would imply worship of false idols.  But it can change your way of life!

* Despite the fact that all Daytona USA 2 requires you to do is drive around in circles...  Who's writing this article?  Aren't there two other tracks in the game, neither of which resembles a NASCAR oval???

* ...offering all the thrills and spills of the real thing...without the threat of killing yourself.  Yes, because Daytona can drive you to suicide.  No, it's the exact opposite--IT LIFTS YOU UP WITH THE VITALITY OF A DOZEN 5-HOUR ENERGIES!!!  Without the tingling.

* The whole experience is made all the more realistic by the fantastic control offered by the steering wheel and the force feedback that is generated through it when skidding for ramming other cars.

* The speed is conveyed brilliantly, especially with the in-car views and the sound isn't bad either with a (words cut off) of engine revs, commentary, and music blasting in one ear and out the other, making the whole experience a veritable feast for the senses.

Compliments, lols

* Graphically, the game looks fantastic--much better than the original--with pop-up and other sinful entities banished to a far off land.  Banished to the far off land of Cruis'n World.

* This game will incite the boy racer from within everyone!  SPEEDY SPEED BOY!!!  We all wanted to be superheroes when we grew up.  I wanted to be a race car driver.  Suck it, Spiderman.

* In truth, Daytona USA 2 is much like Sega's alternative arcade Sega Rally 2 in regards to its gameplay and instant fix of speed and adrenaline--that that that's a bad thing.  No doubt Sega will include a greater number of cars, tracks, and modes for the Dreamcast version, much in the same way that Sega Rally 2 was beefed up for its home appearance.

* With this in mind, Daytona USA 2 could well be another Dreamcast success for the men from Sega, especially with a four-player mode...

* ...but for now we shall just have to wait and hope for the best...

Oh, right.  There's two more pages to go.

SO WHAT DO YOU THINK?  We were so impressed with Daytona USA 2, we went in search of other speed junkies to find out what they thought of Sega's top racing game...

* Jonathon Eason the bank clerk: "I like it.  The controls are really good and it reacts well to the steering.  It gives a good sensation of speed too which is good." The other three guys (students) say pretty much the same thing.  So we unanimously agree that the controls & sense of steering are good, OK??

More user reviews:

* Jon Petty the occupational therapist: Hold on a second, you don't need a therapist when you got Daytona USA 2--that's all the therapy you need.

 * Nancy Davis the "carer": OMG, THERE'S GIRLS THAT PLAY DAYTONA!!!  WE MEN ARE NOT FOREVER ALONE!!!

 * Campbell Morrison the builder: He does one thing right and another thing wrong.  First, he only reviewer not to use the word "good."  Seriously, people, the blue-collar worker has a better understanding of the English language than you all.  Hello, here's a thesaurus of words describing Daytona USA 2:

acceptable, ace, admirable, agreeable, bad, boss, bully, capital, choice, commendable, congenial, crack, deluxe, excellent, exceptional, favorable, first-class, first-rate, gnarly, gratifying, great, honorable, marvelous, neat, nice, pleasing, positive, precious, prime, rad, recherché, reputable, satisfactory, satisfying, select, shipshape, sound, spanking, splendid, sterling, stupendous, super, super-eminent, super-excellent, superb, superior, tip-top, up to snuff, valuable, welcome, wonderful, worthy.

Oh but then when asked if he would buy it for the Dreamcast, he replies "Probably not."

AW HELL NAW, I AM NOT IN THE MOOD FOR THIS...

Either that or he successfully predicted Sega's ineptitude on releasing the game.  You can't say you'll buy something that doesn't exist, can you?

Then the article ends on this:

IT'S NOT JUST A GAME.  That's right, Sega has done something rather special with Daytona USA 2 by linking up certain machines from around the world so that arcade fans can compete for a $1000 prize for posting the fastest time.  Rjay talks about this a lot.  It was who runs the fastest time on Beginner with the Scorpio AT.  Here are the records:

Top 10 UK Times: 2:16.366 to 2:17.929
vs.
Top 10 US Times: 2.17.660 to 2:19.310

So basically, the best US time barely beats the worst UK time.  It's great to know my fellow countrymen suck at racing games.  They are too busy playing Call of Duty and WoW to even give damn.  To quote:  Well, you'll be glad to hear that we're trouncing the Yanks, confirming us Brits as the kings of track.  Watch out for those Asians while you're at it.  Rofl.

Until then, if you got any unmentioned Daytona/Scud Race/other arcade material you want me to see, shoot me an email.  Adios.

NASCAR Drama: Tony Stewart Wins

Oh yes, NASCAR is a strange thing, even if you don't like watching it...

So today was the last race of the season at Homestead, FL.  Carl Edwards and Tony Stewart were the last two drivers who had a shot at winning the championship.  Whoever won the race won the whole thing.  The point difference between the two was that close.  Actually, the score was tied at the end of the race, but Tony won the tiebreaker purely because he won more races than Carl.  Spoiler Alert: Yes, Tony won the race.

6:30 is when it gets interesting.

In the final couple of laps, the Top 2 drivers were Carl Edwards and Tony Stewart.  Seriously, it was almost movie-esque that both drivers would rise to the occasion and completely smoke the rest of the crowd.  You figured at least one of them would run into bad luck or simply fall behind but no.  Actually, Tony had some back luck (some wreck debris hit his grill but did no serious damage) and fell back to around 30-ish position but he came back again and again.  The rest of the pack just parted like the Red Sea to allow these two to race.  It was a drag race to the finish for both of them.

There were two rain delays.  After the rain and a few caution flags 38 laps were all that remained.  Tony was in 1st, Carl was in 2nd.  And I swear, watching this live, you KNEW that Stewart was going to win.  The possibility of a spinout or mistake was completely out of the picture.  It was destiny.  He drove PERFECT laps.  He drove like a madman.  And so did Carl cause he was able to hang with him.  Tony had a one-second lead on Carl the entire 38 laps.  That lead never deviated from there.  Nothing could have stopped Tony outside of an Act of God or running out of gas on the final lap Dale Jr-style.  And all Carl could do was finish second.

I don't have a preference on who won or not.  It's great that Tony won his 3rd championship but damn, Carl really deserve a lot of credit for giving Tony a run for his money.  Seriously, if Tony didn't drive out of his mind, Carl would've won the championship, hands down.  He congratulated Tony after the race...ran up to Tony's car and gave him a handshake.  Took the loss like a champ.  He deserves credit for being the best loser in NASCAR history...well at least in the last few hours of history.  I'm not brimming with NASCAR knowledge here, please bear with me.

Tony Stewart & Carl Edwards.

And I also must say something about Jimmie Johnson.  He won the last FIVE championships.  Yes, FIVE IN A ROW.  An unprecedented streak.  But he missed his chance for a sixth.  You know he was bound to lose eventually.  Well, that's life.  You can't win them all.  It's nice to win as many as possible, but as long as you keep trying to win, you'll lose.  And thus is the harsh reality of competition but there is something to learn from losing.  Carl Edwards was a good sport about it and said it made him a mentally tougher person.

Heh, Tony SMOKED the Duck...funny joke.

Congrats to everybody (except for classless Kyle Busch, CONGRATULATIONS, YOU JUST LOST YOUR SPONSORS!)...sad there won't be any NASCAR until the new season in February.  The next Daytona 500!!!  Will Dale Jr. finally win a race next season???  Tune in to find out!!!

500th Post Special: EPIC Daytona USA Multiplayer Battle

Well, let's see here...this is supposed to be the 500th post (on my Blogspot dashboard here) but seeing as there's a few posts that went AWOL (I deleted them), I don't know if this is really the 500th.  Nonetheless, let's party!!!

You know what.  I'm done talking about this FIEA game pitch nonsense.  The way I see it, The Powers That Be wouldn't have green-lit a racing game anyway, even if it made it to the Top 10.  So f*** it, I don't care anymore.  Let everyone else haul the load of planning & presenting these games.  I'll just sit back, eat popcorn, and watch as everyone else trips over their own shoelaces.

I'm going home now.  You should all be ashamed of yourselves.

This doesn't mean that I have a 0% chance of making another racing game.  During the 2nd thru 4th semesters, we may get the chance to make more minigames of our choice.  So if we get another racing game going just for kicks, then it'll be awesome.  Prove the doubters wrong--just check out my l33t game.  Thumbs up their asses...

So anyway, good news: We now know that Team Marubaku, a pro Sega-racer team out of Japan, is on YouTube now.  Now their speed runs have been on YouTube for some time as uploaded by other users.  But they've asked anyone who posted their videos to remove them and make way for their account.  So I was happy to oblige and got rid of my Scud Race videos (the ones they made).  They DID upload Sega racer vids way before any of us did (before the days of YT when you had to download huge .avi/.wmv vids) so give them props.

I will end on one thing.  Most racing games really come down to one thing--repetition.  Kind of like a golf swing or a free-throw.  It's a matter of learning what works best and practicing it until you can do it consistently.  A racing game involves learning how the car handles and how to handle each turn.  Once you learn it, you can do it nearly consistently...assuming you have no interference, that is.

"An amateur practices something until he gets it right. A professional practices until he can't get it wrong." - an unknown author from a year between 1 AD to 2011 AD.

See the Marubaku video above.  Guy just runs the same routes over and over and over again.  I think this is one reason why people are turned off by racing games.  Disregarding the learning curve and difficulty to be able to do this consistently, there's not much variety there.  For the record, most every video game relies on repetition to say racing games are so repetitive compared to other genres is a bit absurd.

But....this makes me think.  I was playing Daytona USA online again recently.  And I was playing against evenly matched competition.  And I remember going two-wide with some people on the turns.  And that's when my rote memory flew out the window.  This guy is blocking my optimal driving line.  What do I do?  Red alert--figure out another way to take this turn.  Usually this involved fighting for position as we just bumped each other around.

Sometimes, due to opponent interference, I would wreck or my speed would drop below normal.  Turning at a different speed than normal affects how you perform.  Yeah, you'd think driving slower makes turning easier but it doesn't always.  Like I'm used to taking the Sonic turn on Beginner at 180 mph.  If I somehow drop to 150, it gets complicated because I don't know exactly how I should shift and when to slam on the gas.

Then later, he was drafting me on a straightaway.  Do I try to cut him off?  Now let's flip flop positions.  Can I keep drafting him?  When should I make my move and try to overtake him?  Really, I must decide these things on the fly and prepare for the worst.

And at least there's the intimidation factor.  If this were a time trial, I would drive 100% full-speed always--take all the risks and restart if I make a mistake.  But with multiplayer, time doesn't matter--just finish before everyone else.  So there's a guy about a second behind me.  Should I continue to drive to the max but risk crashing?  Or should I play it safe and hope he can't catch up?  Any slight mistake on my part would lead to me falling back.  It's a nail-biter.  Can I hold him off?  Or what if I'm behind in 2nd place--do I take extreme risks to move up to 1st when I could possibly wreck and fall way back to 5th or 6th or so?

I did pass a few people on the very last turn on the Expert course.  I nailed that turn PERFECTLY while everyone else floundered.  An exhilarating comeback.  If I were in the presence of company, I would've yelled and gave everyone a high-five.

Then all of a sudden, a "repetitive" racing game took on a whole new layer of complexity.  Another reason why Daytona USA is so legendary.  Bravo, Sega, bravo.

Now You Know That Sega Makes The Best Racing Games!!!

This is old but nevertheless, I haven't mentioned it yet (I think).  Found this pic today.

Ayrton Senna's Sega trophy.  The 1993 European GP at Donnington Park (or is it "Donington"...oh well) in Leicestershire, England.

dat trophy

Sega ads plastered everywhere!  Hey look, it's Sawnik the Hejhog--PINGAS!!!  But no sign of OutRun, Virtua Racing, etc. which is understandable.

A rainy day for Brazilian driver Ayrton Senna but that didn't slow him down.  He went from sixth to first place in the first lap and didn't let up since, partially because he was able to circumvent the drivers' need to switch from dry to wet tires frequently during the race.  In 76 laps (average lap time 1:20), he lapped every single car (except one).  He finished 1:23 (one minute, 23 seconds) ahead of second-place winner Damon Hill.  Funny because Hill was the one doing the photo-ops with Sonic.

So Senna beat "Sonic" at his own game.  Because of Senna's complete annihilation of the competition, Sega awarded him with his own Sega Genesis, Game Gear, and Master System games.

This...is...AWESOME.

This...not so much. :(

There was even this weird Saturn game called "Ayrton Senna Personal Talk: Message for the Future."  Okay, a video game about a guy talking?  FREAKIN' BRILLIANT!!!

Unfortunately, Senna died at 34 years old in the 1994 San Marino GP.  Just like Dan Wheldon huh?  Terrible stuff...guy was a pro too.

------------

Oh well, this post is to show you how wacky Sega is with these race cars...Nintendo couldn't get away with this but Sega could.  Like Sega and Michael Jackson.  Goes to show you that Sega are RACING PROS, and DO NOT DOUBT ME.  Piss off Nintendo, go sponsor some go-kart races down by the local amusement park/putt-putt course.  Cause Sega's got FORMULA ONE locked down already.
